Want to switch your eSIM to another device? You can transfer your eSIM if both are compatible. Before you start, make sure Wireless Account Lock is turned off.
Here’s how to switch your eSIMs:
- Connect both devices to Wi-Fi®.
- Go to Bring your own device.
- Choose Switch the device used on my line.
- Select Continue. Sign in, if asked.
- Follow the prompts to complete your transfer.
FYI: You’ll need to provide a one-time PIN to complete this transfer.
AT&T Prepaid®
Switching your eSIM with prepaid service between devices? Replacing your SIM card with an eSIM? Call Customer Care at 800.901.9878 from another phone.
Before you switch SIM cards
- Make sure that Wireless Account Lock is turned off.
- Make sure the SIM cards for both devices are the same size.

FYI: You’ll need a 5G SIM card for a 5G device to work on the 5G network.
AT&T Wireless
- Turn off your device.
- Remove the old SIM card.
- Insert the new one.
- Turn on your device.

AT&T Prepaid
You may be able to use your current SIM. Just insert it into your new device and turn it on.
If you have a replacement SIM card and need to update your prepaid account, call Customer Care at 800.901.9878 from another phone.
Data services don’t work after SIM swap
- If you have Wireless Account Lock enabled, you won’t be able make SIM changes—you’ll need to turn off the account lock. Learn how to turn off Wireless Account Lock
- Swapping a SIM card from a basic phone to a smartphone or tablet? We’ll add a compatible data plan when the device activates on our network. Or, you can call us to add it.
- Can’t use data after swapping the SIM, and confirming, or adding a data plan? You may have to program the correct access point name (APN) and multimedia messaging service (MMS) data settings.
