ArticleINSTRUCTIONS & INFO

Set up Siri for universal search

Siri® offers tips and suggestions onscreen instead of talking to you if you have an iOS® device or Apple TV®.

From an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch)

  1. Press and hold the Home or side button. You should see What can I help with?
    • If you see it, Siri is on.
    • If not, Siri is off. Go to Settings. For iPhone® X and later models, tap Siri & Search and then toggle Press Side Button for Siri to ON. If you have an iPhone 8 or earlier model, tap General, then Home Button. Finally  Siri will respond when you press and hold the Home button (look for it under Choose Your Click). Siri still not working? Check Apple Support
  2. Press and hold the Home or side button again.
  3. Speak your command to Siri from anywhere in the Apple® experience. For example:
    • Hey Siri, find Star Wars.
    • Siri, I want to watch Harry Potter.

From an Apple TV
  1. Select Settings, then General.
  2. Scroll down to Siri to make sure it’s turned on.
    • If Siri is on, press and hold the microphone button and speak your command. For example: Find Star Wars or I want to watch Harry Potter.
    • If Siri is off, turn it to ON and then try searching.
