Troubleshoot your DIRECTV receiver

If your receiver doesn’t turn on, let us help. Check your power connections or try Troubleshoot & Resolve to get your receiver working again.


Check the receiver’s power supply and outlet

If your receiver doesn’t turn on, there might be a problem with the receiver’s power supply. Follow these steps to check your power supply and make sure your receiver is getting power.
  1. Make sure your TV is on.
  2. Press the Power button on the front panel of your receiver. If your receiver doesn’t power on, move to step 3.

  3. Unplug the end of the power cord from the back of your receiver and plug it back in. Make sure it's securely connected.
  4. Unplug the other end of your receiver's power cord from the electrical outlet and plug it back in.
    • If a wall light switch controls the electrical outlet, make sure the switch is on.
    • If your receiver plugs into a power strip, make sure the power strip is on.
  5. Press the Power button on the front panel of your receiver. Outlet plug
    If your receiver still doesn’t turn on, check your electrical outlet.

  1. Test the power outlet that you are using for your receiver. Unplug your receiver and plug in another appliance (for example, a lamp).
  2. If your appliance doesn't turn on, try resetting the outlet. You can reset the circuit breaker or a press the reset button on an outlet (pictured below).

  3. Plug your receiver into a working outlet.
  4. Press the Power button on the front panel of your receiver.
