Fix DIRECTV error code 792

Did you get error code 792? You may get this if you use a separate antenna. It means your receiver is searching for an over-the-air or off-air signal.

Check equipment connections

Identify your receiver and try these tips to fix the problem.

HR44 and HR54 receivers with over-the-air Local Channel Connector

  • Unplug the antenna from the power outlet, wait 10 seconds, and reconnect. 
  • Disconnect the USB connector from the receiver and reconnect. 
  • If the error message remains, check the local channel availability for your area at Local Broadcast Strength Detector

H20, HR20, or HR10-250 receivers

  • Check the cable between the off-air antenna and the receiver.
  • Make sure the cable isn’t frayed or damaged.
  • Tighten the connections between the antenna and the Off-Air In port on the receiver.

Receivers using an external off-air tuner

  • Check the cable between the Off-Air antenna and the receiver.
  • Make sure the cable isn’t frayed or damaged.
  • Tighten the connections between the antenna and the off-air In port on the AM21.
  • Visit AntennaWeb.org to find out if off-air signal coverage is available in your area. This is a nonprofit, independent source where you can verify if you can get a clear over-the-air signal in your area. If the site indicates No OTA Signal, you may not be able to get off-air antenna channels.
