Every light on your Wi-Fi gateway has a purpose. Learn what each light means and how to use them to troubleshoot network problems.




Learn the meaning of your Wi-Fi gateway lights

The following chart explains each status light and what it means.

Status lightStateDescription
PowerGreenThe power is on.
Flashing greenThe gateway is starting.
AmberThere’s a software update in progress. Don’t unplug the power or remove the battery until the update is complete.
RedThe gateway or power supply may be malfunctioning.
BatteryGreenThe battery is installed, but the gateway isn’t currently using battery power.
Flashing greenThe battery is charging.
RedThe battery backup is faulty.
Flashing redThe battery should be replaced.
AmberThe gateway is using battery power.
Flashing amberThe battery power is low.
OffNo battery is installed, or the battery isn’t charged.
EthernetGreenA computer or other device is connected to an Ethernet port.
Flickering greenThere is activity from devices connected to an Ethernet port. The flickering of the light is synchronized to data traffic.
Wi-FiGreenA computer or other device is wirelessly connected to the gateway.
Flickering greenThere is activity from devices connected using a wireless connection. The flickering of the light represents data traffic.
Home PNAGreenA set-top box or other device is connected to the coaxial port.
Flickering greenThere is activity from devices connected to the coaxial port. The flickering of the light is synchronized to data traffic.
Phone 1 & 2GreenA phone is connected and registered.
Flashing greenThe associated phone line is active.
Broadband 1 & 2GreenThe gateway is connected to our network.
Flashing greenThe gateway is trying to connect to our network.
Flashing green and redThe gateway has been trying to connect to our network for more than three minutes.
Flashing redThe gateway can't connect to our network, or isn’t detecting a DSL signal.
ServiceGreenThe gateway has obtained an IP address from our network. The connection is active.
Fast flashing greenThe gateway is trying to obtain an IP address.
Slow fashing greenOur network isn’t responding, the gateway is incorrectly configured, or there’s an authentication failure.
RedInternet service authentication has failed.
