[Landline home phone](https://www.att.com/support/home-phone/) # Set up Voicemail for Landline Home Phone Learn how to set up your voicemail box, play messages, and create sub-mailboxes to keep messages for other family members separate. * * * ## Set up and access your voicemail ## About voicemail __Note:__ This article applies to __AT&T local home phone service__. Don't have traditional phone service? Select [Digital Phone](http://www.att.com/support/u-verse-voice/ "Link opens in a new window") or [wireless](http://www.att.com/support/wireless/ "Link opens in a new window"). Voicemail service allows you to receive messages in a personal voicemail box where you can easily listen to, save or erase your messages. If you have new messages, you'll hear an intermittent dial tone when you pick up your phone. If your phone has a message indicator light, it'll blink when you have new messages. You can also use sub-mailboxes to keep messages for family members separate. ## Set up and access your voicemail View the instructions below to set up and access your voicemail box and listen to messages. Dial __\*98__ or dial your __Access Number__. 2. Follow the prompts to set up your mailbox. To set up your mailbox using a phone number not connected to your AT&T Voicemail, follow these steps: 1. Dial your __Access Number__. 2. Enter your __Temporary PIN__ (your 10-digit phone number). 3. Follow the prompts to set up your mailbox. __Access your voicemail__ Dial __\*98__ from your home phone. If you are away from home, dial your access number and follow the prompts, or dial your phone number, then press the __\*__ key when you hear the greeting. Enter your PIN and follow the prompts. __Note:__ Depending on how you set up your voicemail box, you might be asked to enter your PIN. If you haven’t set up your PIN, enter your Temporary PIN from your order confirmation booklet. The Temporary PIN is typically your 10-digit telephone number. __Listen to voicemail messages__ 1. Access voicemail. 2. __Press 1__ to Get your Messages. 3. __Press 1__ for Voice Messages. Use these keys while you're listening to your messages: | __Action__ | __Key__ | |--------------------------------|---------| | Rewind | 1 | | Pause | 2 | | Fast forward | 3 | | Slow down / replay | 4 | | Date / time received | 5 | | Speed up / forward / print fax | 6 | | Delete | 7 | | Reply | 8 | | Save | 9 | | Skip | \# | | Return to main menu | \* | __Turn on Autoplay__ You don't have to __press 1__ to listen to messages if the Autoplay feature is on. To turn AutoPlay on or off: 1. From the Main Menu, __press 4__ for Mailbox Settings. 2. __Press 2__ for Administrative Options. 3. __Press 4__ for Message Settings. 4. __Press 1__ for Voicemail. 5. Select the type of message you want to Autoplay and follow the prompt to turn Autoplay on/off. __Change mailbox settings and greetings__ 1. Access voicemail. 2. From the Main Menu, __press 4__ for Mailbox Settings. 3. __Press 3__ for Greetings and follow the prompts. __Set up sub-mailboxes__ Sub-mailboxes allow others in your home to receive their messages separately. Each sub-mailbox can have its own PIN, greeting, and settings. Follow these steps to set up a sub-mailbox: 1.
