Tech support starts the day you activate service; device coverage starts 31 days after service activation. (If you don’t activate your service, you won’t be signed up for AT&T HomeTech Protection.)

What’s covered

HomeTech Protection covers eligible home office and entertainment devices, smart home products, and Wi-Fi-only personal wearables. See a complete eligible device list

Devices are covered for mechanical or electrical failure caused by:

  • Defects in materials or workmanship
  • Power surges
  • Dust, heat, or humidity
  • Normal wear and tear
  • Accidental damage from handling for eligible portable devices
  • Unintentional or accidental damage from handling because of normal use for laptops, Wi-Fi-only tablets, portable DVD / Blu-ray players, portable gaming devices, Wi-Fi-only wearables, audio headsets, virtual reality headsets, and printer display screens only.

Heads up: HomeTech Protection doesn’t cover devices for loss or theft. It also doesn’t cover smartphones. Looking for device insurance? See which option is best for you

Claims and service fees

You can file unlimited claims in a rolling 12-month period, up to the claim limits. While there isn’t a limit to the number of devices you can cover, there’s an annual cap of $5,000 in claims. There’s also a $2,000 single-claim limit. An approved claim applies to your total claim limit for 12 months once it’s completed.

For each approved claim, you’ll have a service fee of up to $99, depending on the device. You pay the service fee when you file your claim, which will be billed to your credit card.

If your device can’t be repaired and needs to be replaced, you may get one of these options, at Asurion’s discretion:

  • A new, refurbished, or remanufactured product of equal or similar features. The product will have functionality that performs to the factory specifications of the original covered product.
  • Reimbursement for authorized repairs or the replacement cost of the product, as determined by Asurion.
