See when your messages and chats are delivered and read using Rich Communication Services (RCS). * * * ## FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS [Expand All](https://www.att.com) * * * Can I use RCS Messaging with my current iPhone and plan? Yes, if you’re in our domestic coverage area and have: - An Apple® iPhone® running iOS 18 or later - RCS Messaging enabled (it’s enabled by default) Can I use RCS Messaging for iPhone while traveling internationally? RCS outside our network coverage area should work using Wi-Fi data. RCS for iPhone many not work in all overseas destinations. How much does RCS Messaging on iPhone cost? Data usage for RCS Messaging on iPhone is billed the same as any other data usage on your service plan. When using RCS (or iMessage), your message is sent as data and doesn’t count toward your messaging allotments. However, if your message goes through as either SMS or MMS, it will reduce your messaging allotments. How do I use RCS Messaging on iPhone? On iPhones using iOS 18 or later, RCS messaging is enabled by default. To use it, simply open the Message app on your iPhone and begin messaging another person with an RCS-capable smartphone using Google Messages and wireless (or Wi-Fi) data service. If you want to disable RCS messaging: 1. Go to __Settings__, then scroll to __Apps__ and select __Messages__. 2. Scroll to __RCS Messaging__, where you can turn it ON or OFF. __Good to know:__ RCS features (like read receipts) only appear for you and others in your conversation, if you both turn RCS Messaging ON and have a sufficient data connection. Will we see read receipts if we text between iPhone and Android smartphones? Yes. As long as one of you has an RCS-capable iPhone and the other an Android smartphone using Google Messages (and both have a data plan). How do I know if the message I’m sending is SMS/MMS, RCS, or iMessage? In the text input field, if it says: - __iMessage__, then the message is composed as an iMessage. - __Text Message - RCS__, then the message is composed as an RCS message. - __Text Message - SMS__, then the message is composed as an SMS or MMS message. RCS is available on Apple devices using the Messages app and on Android devices using the Google Messages app. - __Send larger files:__ Send larger file attachments than with MMS, like higher-definition pictures and longer or higher-resolution videos. - __Larger group chats:__ Up to 100 participants in a group chat, an increase from previous SMS/MMS messaging limit of 20 participants. - __Create flexible group chats:__ Users can be added to, and easily leave, an existing message thread. - __Get delivery and read receipts:__ See when your messages are delivered and when they are read.
