[AT&T Wireless](https://www.att.com/support/wireless/) # Use device location sharing in the AT&T app Locations in the AT&T app can help keep tabs on family members’ devices on your account. * * * ## Set up in the AT&T app The location map shows a selected device’s general location on a street map or satellite view. Only the account owner or online users can set up location sharing. 1. Open the AT&T app. 2. Tap __Controls__, then __Locations__. 3. Review the location sharing details and tap __Continue__. 4. Choose the devices you want to see on the location map. 5. Tap __Activate Location Sharing__. We’ll send a text to the devices you selected to let the user know their device is included in location sharing. __Good to know:__ Location sharing uses the AT&T network to estimate a device’s location. It’s designed for reliable, everyday visibility, even if the device’s GPS is turned off. The device location shown is approximate and may vary based on network conditions and device usage. ## Understand location details Selected devices will appear on the map as a pin using the first letter of the device name. The device location on the map will refresh in real time. Account owners and online users can select a device to zoom in on and see its approximate location , call or text the device, or get directions to the device's location. __FYI:__ Location data won’t show on the map if the device being shared has airplane mode turned on. * * * ## FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS [Expand All](https://www.att.com) * * * Why did I get a text from AT&T about device location sharing? The account owner or an online user of the account you’re a part of, has turned location sharing on or off for your device. If you have questions, reach out to the account owner or an online user. How do I manage device locations in the AT&T app? Once you have set up devices in location sharing, you can change which ones you want to keep tabs on. From the location map: 1. Select the gear icon. 2. Turn off or on the device you want to see on the map. __FYI:__ We’ll send a text to the selected devices to let them know you’ve updated location sharing. Can I opt out of location sharing in the AT&T app? To end location sharing, contact the account owner or user who activated location sharing and ask them to turn it off for your device.
