Manage wireless voicemail password

Learn how to reset, change, or turn off the voicemail password for your AT&T Wireless or AT&T Prepaid phone.

By default, you must create and enter a password when you call to access voicemail. This helps prevent others from accessing your voicemail. You can:

Reset your voicemail password: Choose this if you forgot your current password.
Change your voicemail password: Do this if you know your current password and just want to update it.
Select voicemail password requirement: Use this if you know your current password and you want to turn the password requirement on or off for your wireless number. (AT&T Wireless^SM only)

Yes, but you must know the current password and be in an AT&T coverage area. From your phone:

Press and hold 1, then enter your voicemail password.
Press # to skip to the Main menu, if you have messages.
Press 4 for Personal options, then 2 for Administrative options.
Press 1 for Password options, then 1 to Change password.
Follow the prompts to complete your change.

Good to know: If you have Visual Voicemail, access your Visual Voicemail screen and enter the new voicemail password when prompted.

You should keep your password on to prevent unauthorized access. But if you want to change your password settings, make sure you’re in an AT&T wireless coverage area. Then:

Press and hold 1, then enter your voicemail password.
Press # to skip to the Main menu if you have messages.
Press 4 for Personal options, then 2 for Administrative options.
Press 1 for Password options, then 2 to Turn password on or off.
Follow the prompts to complete your change.

To create a new voicemail password, make sure you’re in an AT&T Prepaid coverage area and use the AT&T Prepaid phone that had the password reset. If you were given a temporary password, don’t use it while creating a new password.

Access your voicemail by selecting and holding 1 from the call screen.
Follow the prompts to create a new 7-to-15-digit voicemail password.
When the password is created, press the # key and hang up.
Turn your wireless device off and back on.
Attempt to access your voicemail again.

If you're unable to access Visual Voicemail, try calling your voicemail box by selecting and holding 1 from the call screen.
