Set up NumberSync for Apple devices

You can use up to 5 secondary Apple devices to make and receive calls using your iPhone’s wireless number.

FIX AN ISSUE

Which device do you want help with?

Use NumberSync with secondary devices

Before you start, make sure you:
  • Sign in to iCloud® and FaceTime® with the same Apple ID on all compatible devices you want to sync.
  • Set FaceTime Caller ID on your other devices to your iPhone number.

To set up NumberSync:
  1. On your iPhone, go to Settings and then Phone.
  2. Select Wi-Fi Calling, toggle it to On, and follow the prompts.
  3. Tap the back arrow to return to Phone and select Calls on Other Devices.
  4. If Allow Calls on Other Devices is off, toggle it On. The compatible devices you signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID will be listed under Allow Calls On.
  5. Select Add Wi-Fi Calling for Other Devices, and follow along until you reach the NumberSync prompt.
  6. Check your secondary Apple device for a pop-up with a 6-digit code to enable Wi-Fi Calling. Don’t see a pop-up? Open your other device’s FaceTime settings and turn on Calls from Phone.
  7. Enter the 6-digit code into the pop-up on your iPhone and tap Allow.
  8. Select Ok when your secondary Apple device shows a pop-up about emergency calls. Complete any requested emergency address info.

Set up a secondary device later

If you’d rather turn the service on later, you can do that too.

iPad or iPod touch
  1. Go to Settings and then FaceTime
  2. Choose Calls from iPhone and tap Upgrade to Wi-Fi Calling.

Mac
  1. Open FaceTime, then Preferences.
  2. Choose Settings, then Calls from iPhone and Upgrade to Wi-Fi Calling.

Use a secondary device to make calls

Make calls from your iPad®, iPod touch®, or Mac®:
  1. Open FaceTime and select Audio.
  2. Choose a contact or enter a phone number.
  3. Select the phone icon to make your call.

Or, from your Apple Watch® (non-cellular)
  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Select a contact or number from your call log or use Siri.
  3. Tap the phone icon to make your call.

Good to know:
Want to use your Apple watch as a secondary device without your iPhone? Connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network at the same time at least once. If you connect your Apple Watch to Wi-Fi in a place where your iPhone hasn’t connected, it can’t use your iPhone number to make or receive calls.

Unsync your Apple device

  1. From your device, go to Settings and select Phone
  2. Choose Calls on Other Devices.
  3. In the list of devices, turn off Wi-Fi Calling for the device you want to remove.
