Transferring from AT&T Wireless to AT&T Prepaid?

Your AT&T Wireless account must be active for 30 days before you can transfer. It can’t be past due, combined with another service, or a business account.

You can’t switch to AT&T Prepaid® during the two days before or four days after your bill period ends. That’s when we calculate your usage for the month.

FYI: AT&T Prepaid accounts can’t be tax exempt.

Start the transfer process

Don't cancel your current service! We'll take care of that when you activate your new AT&T Prepaid phone.

Check number transfer status

How long will it take to complete a number transfer? It depends on which process you use. If you:

  • Start your number transfer in an AT&T store: one to three business hours
  • Order your new phone or SIM card online or over the phone,: up to three to five business days. Your old phone will still work until you activate your new AT&T Prepaid phone or SIM card.
  • Transfer a non-wireless number: minimum of five to seven business days.
