What to know about 3G going away

To bring you faster speeds and new features, we have to evolve America’s best1 and also fastest2 network. One change we’re making is phasing out our 3G network by February 2022. Once we do, 3G devices and 4G wireless devices that don’t support HD Voice will no longer work on our network.

We’ll keep you updated with any important info as we phase out the 3G network. We’re here to help you anytime.

What it means to you

Talk and data services won’t work for wireless phones and devices that don’t support at least 4G LTE and HD Voice. Find out if your phone will still work on our network 

If you get a text message from us, check it to see which of your lines have phones that won’t work after we phase out the 3G network.

If you have AT&T Wireless℠

Here are your options to replace your phone:

Good to know
: Newer phones have many benefits. Enjoy AT&T Call Protect, which helps prevent robocalls. Plus, you’ll get faster download speeds, high-resolution cameras, better sound quality, and more.

If you have AT&T Prepaid℠
First, learn about your options. For impacted devices, you can:
  • Use a compatible phone you already own
    • Place your SIM card into the phone, then update your IMEI number in myPREPAID
    • If your old SIM card doesn’t fit, get a new SIM card kit. Pick one up from an AT&T authorized retailer, like Walmart, Best Buy, or Target. Then, go to myPREPAID to activate your SIM and update your IMEI number
  • Buy a compatible phone online
    • Place your SIM card into the new phone, then update your IMEI in myPREPAID.
    • If your old SIM card doesn’t fit, get a new SIM card kit. Pick one up from an AT&T authorized retailer, like Walmart, Best Buy, or Target. Then, go to myPREPAID to activate your SIM and update your IMEI number.

Then, find out how to update your IMEI, SIM card, or both. To get started:
  1. Sign in to myPREPAID.
  2. Select My Device, then Update Device.
  3. Follow the prompts to update your IMEI or SIM card number.
