Fix 0x800CCC94 POP3 Need Stat: STAT Command required error

If you get the error 0x800CCC94 POP3 Need Stat: STAT Command required when trying to send or receive email using Microsoft® Outlook® Express, follow the procedures below.

Check your email settings
  1. Open Outlook Express.
  2. From the Tools menu, select Accounts.
  3. Under Mail, select your AT&T email account, and then select Properties.
  4. Make sure the Mail account field displays pop.att.yahoo.com.
  5. Select the Servers tab and make sure the server options are set as follows:
    • The Incoming mail (POP3) field displays pop.att.yahoo.com.
    • The Outgoing mail (SMTP) field displays smtp.att.yahoo.com.
    • The Email Username field displays your complete email address.
    • The box next to My server requires authentication is checked.
  6. Select Settings.
  7. Check the box next to Use same settings as my incoming server.
  8. Select OK, and then select Close.

If you still get the error, update the advanced settings in Outlook Express.

Update your advanced email settings
  1. Open Outlook Express.
  2. From the Tools menu, select Accounts.
  3. Under Mail, select your AT&T email account, and then select Properties.
  4. Select the Advanced tab.
  5. Update the following settings:
    • Under both Incoming mail (POP3) and Outgoing mail (SMTP), check the box next to This server requires a secure connection (SSL).
    • In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) field, enter 465.
    • In the Incoming mail (POP3) field, enter 995.
  6. Select OK.
  7. Select Close.

If you still get the error, remove your account from Outlook Express, and then add it back again.

Remove your account
  1. Open Outlook Express.
  2. From the Tools menu, select Accounts.
  3. Under Mail, select your AT&T email account.
  4. Select Remove.
  5. Select Yes.
  6. Select Close.

Add your account back
  1. Open Outlook Express.
  2. From the Tools menu, select Accounts.
  3. Select the Mail tab.
  4. Select Add.
  5. Select Mail.
  6. In the Display name field, enter the name you want to be displayed on all outgoing emails, and then select Next.
  7. In the Email address field, enter the complete email address, and then select Next.
After you’ve removed and added your email account, configure the server settings.

Set incoming and outgoing server settings
Note: If you don’t know the mail server settings, contact the email provider to get the information.
  1. From the My incoming mail server drop-down list, select your mail server type.
  2. In the Incoming mail (POP3) field, enter pop.att.yahoo.com.
  3. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server field, enter smtp.att.yahoo.com.
  4. Check the box next to SSL.
  5. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) field, enter 465, check the box next to server requires a secure connection (SSL), and select Next.
  6. Enter the email account credentials:
    • In the Account name field, enter the email account username.
      Note: The username is the part of the email address before the @ symbol.
    • In the Password field, enter the email account password, and then select Next.
  7. Select Finish.
