Suspend wireless service and block your device

Protect your phone or device from unauthorized use if it’s lost or stolen. You can also suspend service for personal reasons, such as travel abroad.

If your device is lost or stolen, learn how to find your device using Global Positioning System (GPS1). Note: After you suspend service, you won’t be able to use GPS apps or features to locate the device.

Suspend service and block a device

If you want to cancel for U.S. military deployment. Otherwise, follow the steps below to suspend service online.
  1. Go to Account & services.
  2. Select My wireless.
  3. Scroll and select the device you want to suspend > Manage device & features.
  4. Select Suspend device > Reason for suspension.
  5. If you select Stolen, we recommend selecting the option to Suspend and block device from the AT&T network from the pop-up window.
  6. Select Suspend and follow the prompts to suspend service on your device.

Next steps after you suspend service or block device

After suspending service

While service is suspended
  • No use or purchases can be done using your phone number, except for 911 and 611 calls.
  • Your number remains suspended until you reactivate it.
  • Your monthly plan, feature, and installment agreement fees, if applicable, continue.
  • You can’t find your lost or stolen device using GPS.

While device is blocked
  • No one can use your blocked device on the AT&T network – even with another SIM card. We will inform other carriers to block your device as well.
  • The device stays blocked until you contact us to remove the block.
  • Your monthly plan, feature, and installment agreement fees, if applicable, continue.

Note: You can also temporarily disable data usage by device. Any disabled device will still have data access when connected to a Wi-Fi® network, which doesn't count against your shared data plan.
