Tips for Picking the Best Unlimited Phone Plan

Picking the best  phone plan to meet your needs is an important choice. To help you choose, I’ve put together a list of key features.

Focus on the network

Before you make your decision, you should do some research and compare networks. For example, AT&T has the nation’s best and also fastest network.

Consider plan flexibility

One thing to consider if you are looking for a family wireless plan is the level of customization that a carrier offers. For example, do you have the option to choose different unlimited plans for different members of the family?

AT&T offers UNLIMITED YOUR WAY, which lets customers choose any combination of three post-paid unlimited plans, AT&T Unlimited Starter, AT&T Unlimited Extra and AT&T Unlimited Elite under the same family plan. For example, if one member of the family wants AT&T Unlimited Elite, but another is happy with AT&T Unlimited Starter, they can both get what they want. AT&T may temporarily slow data speeds if the network is busy.

A note on high-speed data

It’s worth paying attention to what your data threshold is. For example, the AT&T Unlimited Elite plan provides 100GB of premium data per line each month before AT&T may temporarily slow data speeds if the network is busy.

Check for 5G access

To enjoy the benefits of a 5G network, you’ll need a wireless plan that includes 5G service. Customers also need to have a 5G compatible device and should check coverage in their area to ensure the best experience. AT&T offers nationwide 5G and multiple phones with 5G capabilities and great features.

In terms of wireless plans, AT&T offers four unlimited plans with 5G service included for no extra charge in eligible areas.2 These plans are AT&T Unlimited Elite, AT&T PREPAID Unlimited Plus, AT&T Unlimited Extra, and AT&T Unlimited Starter. AT&T may temporarily slow data speeds if the network is busy.

Privacy and security

In the modern era, no wireless plan should be complete without some level of security and spam protection. When you pick a plan, be sure to look into how the carrier will handle this issue.

For example, AT&T Unlimited Elite includes spam and fraud blocking, safe browsing protection, identity monitoring, breach alerts, and more.*

Look at HD streaming options

Depending on how you plan on using your device, you might want to check for HD streaming capabilities. Some wireless plans will not allow you to stream HD video with wireless data. If you are a fan of streaming, this might be something to consider. For example, plans like AT&T Unlimited Elite and AT&T PREPAID Unlimited Plus will allow you to enjoy HD streaming over mobile data when you have stream saver turned off in eligible locations.

Mobile hotspot options

Mobile hotspots can be useful if you need to access the internet while you’re on the go. Say you need to log into your laptop, but you don’t have access to Wi-Fi, a mobile hotspot can let you connect using data from your wireless plan if you have a compatible device.

Before you pick any wireless plan, check your options for mobile hotspots. AT&T Unlimited Elite provides 30 GB of high-speed hotspot data per line per month.

Don’t overlook prepaid options

There are plenty of advantages to both prepaid wireless plans and traditional post-paid wireless plans, so don’t overlook prepaid options when you’re looking for wireless service. Prepaid plans tend to provide a level of flexibility that other plans may not.

AT&T offers two prepaid unlimited plans: AT&T PREPAID Unlimited and AT&T PREPAID Unlimited Plus.Unlimited Plus provides access to a mobile hotspot and 5G service in eligible areas for  $50 per month when you factor in an AutoPay discount. AT&T may temporarily slow data speeds if the network is busy

AT&T PREPAID now also has great choices for multi-month plans to pay upfront and save more. For example, the 8GB plan is available in 3-month, 6-month and 12-month best value options when you activate a new line and pay in advance for service.

Consider additional perks

Some wireless plans offer perks beyond unlimited call, text, and data. This can be nice, especially when it’s service that you were thinking of signing up for anyway. If you’re shopping for a new unlimited plan, take a look at what else might come with the deal.

The AT&T Unlimited Elite plan, for example, includes HBO Max at no additional cost.
