Summer Road Trip Guide: 6 Tech Essentials for a Great Vacation

With recent concerns about the safety of more crowded forms of travel, some families are planning summer road trips instead.  It’s a great way to get your family together and explore destinations closer to home. To help you make the most of your vacation, here is a list of 6 tech essentials for any summer road trip.

1. A portable phone battery

Modern travelers rely on phones for a huge range of tasks. You can use your phone to get help if things go wrong, find hotels along the way, and scout out fun places to visit. The last thing anyone wants is for their device to die on them in the middle of an outing. Luckily, this is easy to prevent. You can carry around a portable phone battery and charge your phone almost anywhere.

2. An extra wall charger

When you’re on the road, it’s easy for someone to forget a charger in a hotel room or lose one in some other way. You want to make sure you have an extra wall charger in case you need a spare.

3. A nice pair of headphones

Road trips are great for family time, but they can also keep people crammed together for long periods of time. Headphones can help everyone listen to their own music, movie, or podcast. This can be a nice break for more introverted members of the family.

4. A car charger adapter

You’re likely going to need to charge your phone while you’re on the road. That way, your phone won’t die in the middle of navigation. Bringing a car charger might feel like a no-brainer, but if you’re like me, you’ve forgotten yours before. The car adaptor will let you plug your phone into your car’s electrical port, because many cars do not have the standard outlets you might have in your home. Make sure you remember one these adapters this time.

5. Wireless hotspot or in-car Wi-Fi

If you and your family are going to stay entertained on a long trip, you might want to think about how you’re going to access the internet. Make sure you know how to set up a Wi-Fi hotspot using your phone. Or, alternatively, read this post on in-car Wi-Fi.

6. Plenty of entertainment ideas

Even if you already have your internet set up, it’s easy for people in the back seat of your car to get restless if  they aren’t sure what to watch or play. If you have little kids, it’s always smart to think up a few entertainment ideas ahead of time, so that your family knows exactly what to put on once you’re are on the road.

Enjoy your summer road trip

Hopefully, this post helped you prepare for your upcoming road trip. All that is left now is to stay safe and have fun!
