Using Satellite when cellular or Wi-Fi is unavailable
In an emergency when cellular and Wi-Fi aren't working, first try calling 911. If it doesn't connect, you will see an option for "Emergency text via Satellite" or a green satellite icon. Tap this icon to begin a guided process of connecting to a satellite to send critical information to emergency services, which may include answering a questionnaire, sharing your Medical ID, and your location.

From Home, swipe down from the top-right of the screen to open the Control Panel.
For devices with Home buttons, instead swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open the Control Panel.

Tap the Connections icon group.

Tap Satellite.

Tap Satellite Connection Demo.

From this screen, you can choose from two demos to test network functionality via satellite:
- Try Connecting to Satellite - Temporarily disables internet and calling capabilities to test your satellite connection. For best results, be sure to stand where you have a clear view of the sky.
- Emergency SOS Demo - Select this option to get a walkthrough of Emergency SOS features so you can be prepared for what to expect in an emergency. It will then begin a satellite connection test.
