Use Google Nest cameras with Connected Life

You can add a Google Nest Cam to your AT&T Connected Life system. You just need the Connected Life app and a Google Home account.

Pairing a Nest Cam

Before you can pair a Nest Cam with AT&T Connected Life, make sure you have a Google Home account. If you already have one, we’ll ask you to sign in and link it when you set up your security hub and security devices. If you don’t have one, we’ll take you to Google Home to create an account.

Once your accounts are linked, follow the prompts in the Google Home app to get set up. The app will ask you to scan the QR code, select a location, connect to your home Wi-Fi®, and choose a room where you’ll place the camera. Once you complete these steps, you can check the view and location prior to mounting the camera.

Your Connected Life subscription comes with a Google Home Premium subscription. You’ll be prompted to:

  • Apply Google Home Premium to your Connected Life home

  • Set up the Google Home Premium features you want

  • Set permissions to access Nest Cams in the Connected Life app

Note: If you don’t complete setup for your cameras and for Google Home Premium, you may not be able to see your Google Nest devices in Connected Life.

Install a Google Nest Cam Indoor (wired, 3rd gen)

You can place your Nest Cam Indoor (wired, 3rd gen) on a horizontal surface using the stand or on another surface using the mounting plate. Simply adjust the camera so it points where you want

What you’ll need for installation:

  • Power drill and 7/64 in (3 mm) drill bit or ¼ in (6mm) masonry bit (for wall anchor)

  • #2 Phillips screwdriver

  • Step ladder

  • Extension cord (optional)

Install Google Nest Cam Outdoor (wired, 2nd gen)

There are options to mount and install your Nest Cam Outdoor (wired, 2nd gen). You can run the power cable to an outdoor outlet or to an outlet inside your home through an existing vent or hole. You can also drill one yourself.

To install the wall mount and cable clips, you’ll need:

  • #2 Philips screwdriver

  • Step ladder, if necessary

  • Power drill and drill bit:

  • Wood or drywall: 3/32 in (3 mm)

  • Stone, masonry, or stucco: ¼ in (6 mm)

  • Level

Install Google Nest Cam (outdoor or indoor, battery)

Important: Make sure you fully charge the camera before installing it.

What you’ll need for installation:

  • Phillips screwdriver

  • Power drill

  • Drill bit for pilot holes: 2 mm (3/32 in)

  • Drill bit for wall anchors: 6.5 mm (¼ in)

  • Drill bit for hole to pass power cable through a wall: 13 mm (½ in)

  • Ladder

Install with magnetic mount

Use the magnetic plate to hold your camera in place on any metal surface – indoors or outdoors. Or, to place on a wall, attach the wall plate with the included screws, then secure the magnetic plate onto the backplate.

FYI: With either of these options, you can also use any weatherproof power accessories.

Install above 6.5 feet

To place your Nest Cam over 6.5 feet, use the secure loop. It’s a cable that connects your camera to the mount so it won’t fall.

Secure loop installation

  1. Screw the end of the loop into the threads on the bottom of the camera by hand, then pull the cable to the side and tighten with a flat head screwdriver.

  2. Place the loop around the magnetic mount where it meets the wall. The loop should slip behind the faceplate.

  3. Pull the tab to tighten the loop until it’s snug. Make sure the tab is accessible so you can easily remove your camera for charging. (Don’t push the tab behind the mount or you can’t open the loop to remove your camera for charging.)

  4. Place your camera on the magnetic plate.

  5. Check the camera feed in the app to confirm that your camera covers the view you want.

Battery guide

Nest Cams that use a battery can be recharged by removing the camera from the mount and plugging it into a compatible 7.5W AC adapter and charge cable. It takes around 5 hours to fully charge the battery.
