Get all the details on using your AT&T Internet Air for Business 5G gateway (BGW830) to connect to the internet and troubleshoot common issues.

Get started

  1. Place your 5G gateway in a location a location that will provide the best connection for your internet service. We recommend placing it on a shelf, near a window away from other electronics.
  2. Plug one end of the power supply into the gateway and the other end into a power outlet.
  3. Wait for the gateway to connect to the AT&T mobile network. This can take around 3-5 minutes.
  4. Check your 4G and 5G LED status lights to make sure you have the best signal.
    • 4: Strong signal
    • 3: Fair signal
    • 1-2: Weak signal

FYI: If you have a weak signal, check your gateway placement or get personalized help.

Status light details

The front of your 5G Gateway has five lights: one power and four signal indicators. Review the PDF to get all info related to the lights on your hub.

  • Green (solid): The number of lights indicates your signal. If you only have one or two green lights, you should check for a better location.
  • Amber (chasing): Your gateway is looking for the best signal tower.
  • Amber (blinking): Your gateway has an error. Count the number of blinking lights to determine your error code.
    • One (E004): No IP address
    • Two (E400): SIM error
    • Three (E403): Authentication failure
    • Four (E013): DNS down
    • Off: If all signal indicator lights are off and the power button is red, there’s no connection to the 5G cellular network (E405).

Wi-Fi details

Find Wi-Fi info

Gateway

Get your default Wi-Fi® network name and password from your 5G Gateway. Check the label in the middle of the back of your device for the default Wi-Fi details. Use them to connect right away. We do recommend changing your Wi-Fi info for added security.

Change Wi-Fi info

You can change your default Wi-Fi® info in just a few steps. From a device connected to your 5G Gateway:

  1. Go to your AT&T BGW830 settings.
  2. Open Network and select Wi-Fi.
  3. Enter a custom:
    • Wi-Fi Network Name (SSID)
    • Wi-Fi Password
  4. Select Save.

FYI: If you change your Wi-Fi name or password, make sure you update the connection info for any devices that were previously connected.

Manage guest Wi-Fi

Your 5G Gateway comes with the Guest Wi-Fi turned off. Here’s how to turn it on.

  1. Go to your AT&T BGW830 settings.
  2. Open Network and select Wi-Fi.
  3. Scroll to Guest SSID Enable and turn it On.
  4. Enter or update the Guest Network Name and Password, if you want to customize them.
  5. Select Save.

Good to know: You can always turn Guest Wi-Fi off, also.



Advanced settings

Mac address filtering

Set up your 5G Gateway so that it only connects to devices by MAC address. This makes your connections more secure. When you turn on MAC address filtering, only devices that you select can connect to your network.

FYI: Make sure you have the MAC address for each device you want to access your Wi-Fi home network. Every device will have its own process to find its MAC address. Check your service documentation or manufacturer’s website for detailed instructions.

  1. Go to your AT&T BGW830 settings.
  2. Open Home Network, then Mac Filtering.
  3. Enter the Device Access Code from your gateway.
  4. Go to the MAC Filtering section and select Enabled for the radio you want to turn on MAC Filtering.
  5. In Mac Filter Entry, either:
    • Select your devices’ MAC addresses
    • Enter the MAC address in the Manual Entry field (repeat as needed)
  6. Choose Add.
  7. Select Save.
