AT&T Local Network Restoration

Find out what we’re doing to restore our network in parts of Redding, California.

Get details on our restoration effort

Last fall’s wildfires destroyed much of our local network. That includes copper wiring we used to use to provide your service. In parts of Redding, we’ve replaced our damaged network with new fiber optic technology that can bring you new and better services.

If your service was affected by the wildfires, we’ll send you additional info.

Why is fiber optic technology better?
Fiber optic technology uses cables made of glass or plastic strands that transmit light. These cables are more efficient than standard copper wiring. They can transmit more information faster, with higher quality over greater distances. Electrical interference doesn’t affect them. As a result, the upgraded network is more reliable and secure.

How does the network restoration affect me?
We’ll restore your services on our new fiber optic network at no cost to you. Our technicians will have to be able to access your home to install the new equipment and connect your services to the upgraded network. You or an authorized adult (age 18 or older) must be present throughout the entire installation. It should take between 2 and 4 hours. With your input, the tech can choose the installation options that’s right for you.
  • If you had traditional home phone service or digital phone service, there’s no change to your prices and plans. You’ll keep all the same features as before - unless you request other changes.
  • If you had U-verse TV® service, you can keep your prior plan at the same price and use your existing equipment unless you choose to upgrade.
  • If you had internet service, your prior plan won’t be available, but you’ll have options for updated service at a competitive price.

How do I restore my service?
Call us at 855.892.7563. We’re available Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT, and Saturday 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. PT.

Will my traditional home phone service change?
You’ll keep all the same basic functions and features and you can use the phones you already have. Your plan will stay the same unless you request changes.

The biggest difference is that fiber optic cables can’t carry electrical current like copper wires. So, the new fiber optic equipment uses your electrical power to work. We’ll install an initial backup battery for your new equipment. This way, your phone service will continue to work during a power outage. You’ll be responsible for maintaining the backup battery and any replacement batteries. If the backup battery is depleted, your phone service won’t work during a power outage.

Can anything about my AT&T Phone digital voice service change?
Your digital voice plan and price will stay the same unless you make changes. But, the new fiber optic equipment located in your home uses your electrical power to work. You’ll have to provide backup batteries for your new optic network terminal and residential gateway if you want your digital phone service to work during a power outage.

For more info about backup batteries, go to att.com/batterybackup or contact us to have info sent to you.

Will the change to fiber optic technology affect other devices that use my traditional home phone or digital phone service?
Any devices you used with your previous phone service will work on our fiber optic network. This includes equipment like fax machines, security alarms, and medical monitors. However, these devices won’t work if your service stops during a power outage.

Can I get other AT&T services with the new fiber optic connection?
Yes. Fiber optic technology can provide other services like:
  • Digital voice
  • High-speed internet
  • Digital TV
