Protect your computer

Stop attacks before they happen

You can stop security threats to your computer and accounts by using good security habits.

Secure your Wi-Fi settings
If you use a Wi-Fi® gateway or router, make sure your security is enabled for the Wi-Fi connection. If security isn't enabled, anyone within range of the device can use the connection. You, as the account holder, will be held responsible for any activity coming from your connection.

Update browsers
Web browsers are constantly updated to improve functionality and security. Keeping your browser updated to the latest version is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself. To find out what version of the browser you're currently using:
  1. From your browser's toolbar, select Settings or Help.
  2. Then, select About (name of your browser).
Complete a system clean up
Uninstall programs and applications you no longer use, as they may run in the background of your computer. Delete unnecessary files - especially music, video, and picture files - from your computer to free up space on your hard drive and help reduce compromised files. Once this is done, complete a disk cleanup.
