Turn data off or on for eligible devices

Learn how to temporarily disable data usage by device if someone on your plan is using too much data or you're close to going over your data plan allotment.


How to turn member data off or on

Check your plan

Not sure which plan you're on? Go to myAT&T > My wireless and we’ll show you. If your current data plan does not include the ability to turn data off or on using the following steps, Device Support may offer specific instructions for your device.

Disable or activate data usage online

  1. Go to Usage.
  2. Select Manage my data usage in the Usage section below the graph.
  3. Toggle Data Off or On for the device you want to manage.
  4. Select Save

Note: When restoring data services - including picture and video messaging - you'll need to power off the device you reactivated, then power it back on again.

Things to know about turning off data usage

  • Authorized users on the account may temporarily suspend data access for each device on the plan.
  • Turning off data usage is temporary, lasting to the end of the current billing period. When your next billing period begins, all devices on your plan automatically reactivate.
  • Any disabled device will still have data access when connected to a Wi-Fi network, which doesn't count against your shared data plan.
  • Monthly charges will continue to apply.
