A system and terms update will affect your voicemail and any text or picture messages stored in the AT&T cloud.

ArticleINSTRUCTIONS & INFO

How to check your voicemails and messages

Details

The AT&T Backup & Sync service backs up your text and picture messages in the AT&T cloud so that they can be downloaded to your next phone. A system update will affect your voicemail. On the date listed in the text message you received, you’ll need to set up a new voicemail mailbox and password. Please listen to all of your voicemail from your phone prior to this date because these voicemail messages will be deleted.

Note: While AT&T doesn’t have a tool to save voicemail messages, you can search the Internet for "how to save a special voicemail" for options.

In addition, the Backup & Sync terms have changed and cloud message storage is for up to 90 days. This change goes into effect on the date listed in the text message you received. On that date, all your sent and received text and picture messages will be stored in the AT&T cloud for up to 90 days. Messages older than 90 days will be deleted from the cloud.

Note: Messages will not be deleted from your phone.

Main steps

Listen to voicemail and read messages before deletion
Voicemails and messages over 90 days old will be deleted from the cloud. Follow the steps below to listen to and read your messages before the date mentioned in the text message you received.
  1. Listen to all of your voicemail from your phone.
  2. Go to messages.att.net on your tablet or computer to read messages that may not be on your phone.
  3. To save messages, forward them to your email address.

Set up your new voicemail box
After the date listed in the text message you received you will need to set up your new voicemail box and password. Just follow the steps in about Visual Voicemail.

Keep your messages stored in the AT&T cloud
You don’t have to do anything - text and picture messages will automatically be stored in the cloud for up to 90 days beginning on the date mentioned in the text message you received.

Stop your messages from being stored in the AT&T cloud
If you don’t want your messages stored in the AT&T cloud, you can do one of the following after the date listed in the message you received:
  • Sign in to myAT&T and remove AT&T Messages Backup & Sync from the mobile number that has the Service (option not available to business accounts).
  • From the Messaging application on your smartphone, select Settings > AT&T Messages Backup & Sync, then choose Stop Backup (option available on smartphones that support Backup & Sync).
