Changes to AT&T Messages Backup & Sync

If you have certain smartphones, message reads and deletes will no longer sync to the AT&T cloud.

No more message sync

In checking our records, we noticed that you use AT&T Messages Backup & Sync on your smartphone. This service backs up your text and picture messages in the AT&T cloud for up to 90 days so that they can be downloaded to your next phone.

Because of a system update, your device is no longer compatible with the backup & sync service. This means that after September 24, 2018, you won’t be able to sync information about whether a message has been read or deleted from your smartphone to the cloud.  We’ll continue to store your messages in the cloud, but sync between your phone and the cloud will stop.

If you no longer want your messages stored in the cloud, please follow the instructions below.

Affected smartphones

After September 24, 2018, sync of message read and delete activity to the cloud will stop for these smartphones:
  • HTC Desire 626 (model 0PM912000)
  • HTC One A9 (model 2PQ9120)
  • LG G Vista (model D631)
  • LG G3 Vigor (model D725)
  • LG G Flex2 (model H950)
  • LG G Escape2 (model H443)
  • Samsung Mega 2 (model SM-G750A)
  • Samsung Alpha (model SM-G850A)
If you recently upgraded your phone, please ignore this notice.

Message storage options

Keep messages stored in the AT&T cloud

You don’t have to do a thing. We’ll still store your text and picture messages in the cloud for up to 90 days. You may get an AT&T Messages Backup & Sync error on your smartphone about not being able to access the cloud or sync to the cloud. To dismiss this error, select Not now.

Heads up: If you upgrade to a supported smartphone, messages downloaded from the cloud won’t reflect message read and delete activity from your old phone.

Stop message storage

Don’t want to store your messages in the AT&T cloud anymore? Take one of these actions:
  • Sign in to myAT&T and remove AT&T Messages Backup & Sync from your smartphone (option not available for business accounts).
  • From the Messaging app on your smartphone, select Settings, then AT&T Messages Backup & Sync, and choose Stop Backup (option not available on all supported smartphones).
