Set up two-factor authentication for Connected Life

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security to your AT&T Connected Life system. It will require a code from an authenticator app on your phone the first time you sign in or anytime you sign in from a new device.

Turn on two-factor authentication

Before you start, make sure you have an authentication app (like Google Authenticator or Authy) installed on your device. For the most security, have each user with access to your Connected Life system enable two-factor authentication.

From the Connected Life app:

  1. Select Menu (≡), then Edit profile, account, and plan settings.

  2. Tap Two-factor authentication and enter your Connected Life password.

  3. Tap the QR code to copy the code, then go to your authenticator app and set up 2-step verification with the code you copied.

  4. Copy the new code from the authenticator app and paste or enter the six-digit numeric code to the Authentication key field under step 2 in the AT&T Connected Life app.

  5. Tap Continue.

  6. Save the backup code in a secure place in case you lose or switch your phone or can’t access your authenticator app. You’ll use this code to sign in if that happens. Keep in mind, you can only use the backup code once. After that, you’ll have to create a new one.

  7. Tap Done.

The next time you sign in to the Connected Life app, you’ll be asked to also enter an authenticator code. This is a new code that your authenticator app generates.

Important: If you lose your backup code, contact the Abode support team for Connected Life to help reset your two-factor authentication settings.

Turn off two-factor authentication

From the Connected Life app:

  1. Select Menu (≡), then Edit profile, account, and plan settings.

  2. Select Two-factor authentication, then tap Disable.

  3. Enter your Connected Life password.

  4. Tap Done to complete the process.

FYI: This only disables two-factor authentication for this user. It doesn’t disable it for anyone else using the Connected Life system.

Generate a new backup code

You can only use a backup code once to sign in if you can’t access your phone or authenticator.

From the Connected Life app:

  1. Select Menu (≡), then Edit profile, account, and plan settings.

  2. Tap Two-factor authentication, then Generate new backup code.

  3. Enter your Connected Life password and tap Continue.

  4. Tap the new backup code to save it.

  5. Tap Done to complete the process.
