Set up and manage Connected Life automations

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Use the AT&T Connected Life app to set up automations to make your everyday life more convenient.

How automations work

An automation is an action that happens at a certain time or based on a designated event. Automations consist of three components: Starters, actions, and conditions.

Starters define what causes the automation to happen. You can choose multiple starters so the automation runs exactly when you want. Starters are represented by an “OR” options.

Example: You want your alarms to be disabled just after sunset or when you get home from work. To do this, you would set these starters: 5 minutes after sunset, or when mobile device is detected 200 yards from home.

Actions

are the events you want to happen when the automation runs. Any device connected to your Connected Life system can be set up to perform an action. Plus, you can add more than one action to an automation by including an “AND” statement.

Example: When you leave your house for work, you want to switch your system to Arm Away AND make sure all your lights are off. To do this, set these actions: When I’m 200 yards from home or 5 minutes after 8:00 am, switch the system mode to Arm Away AND turn off the front light.

Conditions are optional settings to make sure an automation only runs if the conditions are true. Conditions use an “IF” statement that must be met for the action to happen.

Example: You want to activate your system at night when you’re home and turn on your front light, but only when it’s dark out. Add the following condition: Only run this automation when it’s dark out.

Sample automations

Here are a few ways you could use automations:

  • If the living room motion sensor detects motion after sunset, turn the lights on.

  • At 3:30 PM on weekdays, unlock the front door.

  • Every day at 10:00p.m., turn the living room camera off.

You can also set up location automations, which happen as a result of your phone’s (or another device’s) location. Learn about location automations
