Getting started

  1. You can download the update via Firmware Over the Air (FOTA). 
  2. You must connect your device to Wi-Fi or a cellular connection to download the update.
  3. Downloading via cellular network will impact your data bucket and may result in additional charges.
  4. Install the latest Samsung Gear software version before updating your Samsung Gear S2 software.
  5. Visit the Galaxy Apps store (Samsung smartphones only) or the Google Play store (all Android devices).
  6. Download and install Samsung Gear 2.2.20.17113061 or newer.
  7. Your Samsung Gear S2 must be on software version R730AUCU3CQK1 to install the update. If not, repeat the update process below until you install R730AUCU3CQK1, and then you should be able to install the latest software update.

Update & verify software

To update the software
  1. On your smartphone, if using Wi-Fi, connect your phone to a Wi-Fi network. Otherwise, it will use your data bucket.
  2. In the Samsung Gear app, ensure you are paired with your wearable device via Bluetooth.
  3. On your smartphone, tap Settings > About Gear > Update Gear Software > Update now.
  4. Tap Download and follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. A notification message appears when the update successfully completes.

To verify the update
  1. From your Gear device clock screen, tap the Power key.
  2. Rotate bezel to and tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap Gear Info > About device.
  4. Scroll to Software version to verify update.
  5. Your device has the latest software if the Software version matches the current update details.
