Manage your AT&T PREPAID data

Get tips to help you stay within your AT&T PREPAID high-speed data allowance.

Know how much data you’re using

It’s easy to monitor your data use. You can:

Be aware of what uses the most data

Here are some activities1 that can drive up your data use:
  • High-definition video streaming (about 900MB per hour)
  • Video conferencing with apps like FaceTime® and Skype® (about 480MB per hour)
  • Standard-definition video streaming (about 240MB per hour)
  • Online interactive gaming (about 60MB per hour)
  • Streaming music (about 30MB per hour)
  • Downloading movies and other large data files

Use less plan data

Join a Wi-Fi network whenever you can

Connecting devices to Wi-Fi® networks is a great way to use less wireless data. If there aren’t any Wi-Fi networks available, your device automatically switches back to wireless data.

Heads up: Some apps on your device use wireless data even when connected to a Wi-Fi network.

You can learn more with our device tutorials on how to:Take control with Stream Saver

Use Stream Saver2 on compatible plans to use less data while streaming video. It detects video content and then streams it at standard-definition quality, like a DVD (about 480p).

Use built-in device features

Most smartphones and tablets today have built-in data-monitoring features. You may also be able to set warnings or limits that disable your wireless data when you reach a pre-set data limit.

Get more info at your device manufacturer’s support site.

Consider a new plan

With AT&T PREPAID unlimited plans, you get unlimited talk, text, and data in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. (Other restrictions apply.)
  • If you have the $65 AT&T PREPAID Unlimited plan, AT&T may temporarily slow your data speeds when the network is busy
  • If you have the $75 AT&T PREPAID Unlimited Plus plan, AT&T may temporarily slow your data speeds after 22GB of data use per line per month.
