Before transferring a number to AT&T PREPAID

Helpful tips

Don't cancel your current service! We'll take care of that when you activate your new AT&T PREPAID^SM phone.
Contact your service provider so you know what charges may apply. You'll need to pay any outstanding balances. You may also have to pay an early termination fee.
You can transfer a number for free within 30 days of activation. After 30 days, there’ll be a $36 transfer fee charge.

Confirm eligibility and info needed to begin the transfer
If the number is eligible to transfer, you’ll need to provide information about your current account to begin the transfer process. Any wrong information may delay the processing.

View a recent monthly phone bill or call your current service provider to verify:

Phone number you want to transfer
Account owner's name and address
Account owner's Social Security number or Tax ID
Current account number
PIN or password, if applicable

Transfer timeframes
When transferring your number from another wireless carrier or AT&T wireless:

If you start your number transfer in an AT&T store, your number will transfer to us within one to three business hours.
If you order your new phone or SIM card online or over the phone, your number transfer may take up to three to five business days to complete. Your old phone will still work until you activate your new AT&T PREPAID phone or SIM card.
If you're transferring a non-wireless number, it'll take a minimum of five to seven business days to complete.
