About the AT&T Speed Test

The AT&T Speed Test shows you your baseline speeds. Baseline speeds are determined by using the AT&T servers closest to you to measure the speed between your devices (including computers, smartphones, tablets, game consoles, and smart TVs) and the internet. The speed test takes less than a minute and performs 2 key measurements:  
  • Download speed (the speed of data sent from the internet to your device)
  • Upload speed (the speed of data sent from your device to the internet)

Detailed steps for testing your internet speed

How to test your home network speed:
  1. Make sure the only thing connected to the internet is the device you’ll be testing. Disconnect all other devices connected to your network to avoid Wi-Fi congestion, even if they aren’t using internet. 
  2. Go to the computer or device where you want to test your internet speed.
  3. If testing over Wi-Fi:
    • Make sure the wireless device has a clear line of sight, approximately 10 feet from your Wi-Fi gateway. Devices that use older standards like 802.11b or 802.11g can’t get faster speeds. 
    • Disable any household device that may create wireless interference. These include Bluetooth devices, wireless phones, baby monitors, and other wireless video devices.
  4. Close other apps on your device.
  5. Run the AT&T Internet Speed Test.
