Learn next steps after upgrading to AT&T Internet

Getting a new AT&T service installed? Here are a few things you should know to help with the transition.

Confirmation and registration

Once your upgrade is ordered, here is how to:
  • Confirm your order details
  • Register your account
  • Manage your services at home and on the go

Order confirmation

You'll get a summary of your order, along with a confirmation of your service activation or tech installation date. Please make sure this info is correct.

Here’s an easy way to verify what plan you have:
  1. Go to your myAT&T account overview.
  2. Select My internet, then Manage my internet to see your plan details.
Heads up: If you’re interested in AT&T Fiber® or other high speed internet options, you can change or upgrade your plan at any time. Plans are subject to availability in your area.

Passcode

You’ll also get an email or letter with a 4-digit passcode. It is the same passcode you chose when you ordered your service. You’ll need this to register, so make sure to have it handy.

Register your AT&T Internet

Before your installation day, you can register at att.net/uverse with your account number and 4-digit passcode. It’s a good idea to register with your existing AT&T user ID and password, so be sure to have them handy.
  • Forgot your user ID or password? No worries. Just go to myAT&T and select Forgot password? or Create one now in the sign-in area.
  • During registration, you’ll be presented with the Internet Terms of Service, which you have to accept to use the service. You can view them anytime at att.com/internet-terms.

Welcome Center

Visit the AT&T Internet Welcome Center. Here we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about your new service.

Get a quick checklist (PDF, 140KB). You can review it as you complete the activation process.

Activation and installation

Note: We recommend professional installation if you have a home alarm or health monitoring system. This is due to technical issues that may arise.

Self-installation

If you’re installing your new services on your own:
  • Track your equipment: When we ship your equipment, we’ll send you an email with a link to track your package. We’ll also leave a voice message or send a text message.
  • Wait for service activation: Your service will be activated by 2 p.m. on your service activation date.
  • Install your equipment: After your service is activated, you will have to disconnect your AT&T DSL equipment. Then you can install your new internet equipment with the provided instructions.
As a current customer, your telephone and internet service will see limited downtime. Your telephone service will be restored automatically. To restore internet service, connect the new equipment in your self-installation kit.

Want a technician to install your service? Call 800.288.2020, and enter the phone number linked to your account. Say I need to schedule an installation appointment for my internet service at the prompt. We'll take care of all the details, and explain the applicable charges.

Professional installation

If a technician will be installing your service:
  • Prior to your installation date - You'll get reminders (email and voice message or text) with the date and time of your appointment.
  • On your installation date - You’ll get a reminder about your appointment. The tech will install your new equipment and help you through the registration process, if you haven’t already registered.
During registration, you’ll see the Internet Terms of Service, which you’ll have to accept to use the service. You can view them any time at att.com/internet-terms.

Need to change your appointment? We know schedules change. Sign in to see or change your appointment or call 800.288.2020 and say change installation.

Manage your account and learn about billing

myAT&T

With myAT&T you can manage your account anywhere, anytime. Use myAT&T on your smartphone or tablet for easy access to your AT&T information. Download the myAT&T app.1
  • Check your order status - Find out where your order is, when your service(s) will arrive, and what your next steps are.
  • Check or change appointments - Find out when your technician will arrive. Or, if necessary, reschedule your appointment.
  • Manage all your accounts - If you have other AT&T services, such as home phone, link them with your new service. You’ll be able to manage all your accounts in one place.

Your AT&T bills

Be on the lookout for your new bill, and make sure to wrap up payments on your old services.
  • Look for your new bill - Once your new AT&T service is set up, you'll have a new account. This means you’ll receive a new bill for your upgraded service(s) that’s separate from your AT&T DSL and/or traditional voice service bill.
  • Pay your final bill for any current services if you’re not on AutoPay - You'll receive a final bill for any services you’re upgrading.
Note: You’ll continue to get a separate bill for your home phone service if you didn’t upgrade to digital service.

Set up AutoPay
Be sure to set up new AutoPay arrangements. Also, pay the final bill for your old services

Any previous AutoPay arrangements won’t carry over to your new account. Sign in to myAT&T to manage AutoPay. If you need help managing your accounts, call us at 800.288.2020.
