DETAILED INFO

Find out how much data you’re using

Tracking your data use is your first line of defense. Here are some simple ways to stay informed:
Want to manage data use from your mobile device? Get the myAT&T app. Text and data rates may apply for download and use.

Be aware of what uses the most data

Here are some activities that tend to use a lot of data:
  • High-definition video streaming (900MB per hour)
  • Video conferencing, like FaceTime® and Skype® (480MB per hour)
  • Standard-definition video streaming (240MB per hour)
  • Online interactive gaming (60MB per hour)
  • Music streaming (30MB per hour)
  • Downloading and viewing movies or other large data files

Use less data

Use Wi-Fi whenever you can

Connecting your devices to a Wi-Fi network helps you use less wireless data. If your device can't connect to Wi-Fi, it automatically switches back to cellular data.

Did you know? Some apps on your device use wireless data even when connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Explore our interactive device tutorials on how to:

Take control with Video Management

Video Management conserves data by detecting high-definition video content and streaming it in standard-definition quality (similar to DVD quality, about 480p).

Video Management might not support standard-definition quality when two or more tethering devices stream video from the same app or website at the same time. If you experience slow speed, you may want to use a different app or website on each device. Or, you can turn off Video Management.

Use built-in device features

Most smartphones and tablets have built-in data-monitoring features. You may also be able to set usage warnings or limits to disable wireless data when you've used a certain amount.

Get more info at your device manufacturer's support site.

Turn off data for specific devices

Have an AT&T unlimited, AT&T 4GBSM, or AT&T Mobile Share® plan? Disable data use for each device to help prevent data overages for that bill period. Find out how to turn data off or on for each device.

Don't have one of those plans? You may be able to disable data use by contacting us.

Suspend or block all usage for specific devices

You can immediately stop all wireless use on a phone or tablet by suspending service on that device. There's no charge to suspend or reactivate your wireless service. But, you still have to pay the monthly plan charges. Find out how to suspend your wireless service

Make sure you have the right plan

Do you frequently go over your data allowance? Try switching to a plan that better meets your data needs. Sign in to myAT&T to compare plans or change yours.
