Transfer billing responsibility for AT&T service

Learn how to transfer responsibility for your AT&T bills to someone else.

Transfer or accept billing responsibility

Guidelines for transferring a bill

If you only have AT&T home phone service, learn how to transfer responsibility for a traditional home phone bill. Otherwise, here’s what you should know:
  • Your account status must be current with no past-due balance.
  • If you have combined billing, you need to separate your services, such as AT&T Internet, Phone, U-verse TV, DIRECTV, and wireless, before transferring all or part of the account to a new owner.
    • The accounts can be re-combined by calling us after 2 full billing periods. You'll get separate bills until then.
    • Re-combined accounts must all have the same account owner.
    • The new account owner won’t be allowed to recreate an old combined bundle with grandfathered rights and prices.

Current account owners

If your account is current with no past-due balance, follow these steps to transfer billing responsibility to someone else.
  1. Go to Transfer Billing Responsibility
  2. Enter and review the account info to confirm it's correct.
  3. Create a 4-digit personal identification number (PIN). To complete the transfer process, the person taking over your service will need this PIN, your AT&T account number, and your ZIP Code.
  4. Follow the prompts to transfer billing responsibility.

Note: The future owner accepting billing responsibility must finish the process within 14 business days after you submit your request.

Future account owners

Complete the following steps no later than 14 business days after the current account owner requests the transfer.
  1. Go to Accept Billing Responsibility.
  2. Enter the required info and select Next.
  3. Confirm that the account info is correct.
  4. Follow the prompts and agree to the Terms of Service.
  5. Select Submit.
  6. Contact us to complete your acceptance of AT&T billing responsibility. We’ll ask you for the AT&T account number and 4-digit PIN the current account owner gave you.
