Check your wireless usage

Learn how to view your wireless talk, text, and data usage; how usage is billed; and why you might experience overage charges.

Info

Wireless usage includes:

  • Talk usage displays all outgoing and incoming phone calls, call time, call length, and type of call (network or Wi-Fi® calling).
  • Text usage shows the phone numbers, type of message sent, and time sent or received if made using the cellular network. Don’t see all your texts on your log? Apple® iMessages and AndroidTM Advanced Messaging use Wi-Fi® or data and won't show in your text logs. To track all sent and receiving texts, turn off iMessage or Advanced Messaging on your device
  • Data usage displays the amount of cellular data used.
  • Hotspot usage shows the amount of cellular data used for hotspot.
FYI: No one on your account can see the content of your text or video messages.

Billing

You’re billed for wireless usage based on your wireless plan. If your plan:

  • Includes unlimited talk, text, and data, you won’t be billed for usage.
  • Doesn’t include unlimited talk, text, and data, and you use more than your plan’s allotted amount, you may be billed for it.

Overages

You’ll see overage charges on your bill if you go over your plan’s talk, text, or data limits in a bill period. If you don’t have an unlimited plan, you may see overage charges for:

  • Talk: Usage is rounded up to the nearest minute. If you use more minutes than your plan allows (including any Rollover Minutes), you’ll be charged for each extra minute at your plan’s overage rate.
  • Text: This includes all text, picture, and video messages (sent and received). If you send more messages than your plan allows, you’ll be charged for each extra message.
  • Data: Usage is rounded up to the nearest GB for all devices on your plan. If you use more data than your plan includes, we’ll charge you for extra data. This data must be used during the same bill period and won’t roll over.

If you regularly see overage charges on your bill, you may want to switch to an unlimited plan. Want to see what’s included with your current plan? Check out your Customer Service Summary.
