Add a line or device to an AT&T account

Learn how to get service for either a new AT&T device or one you bought elsewhere.


For a new AT&T device

  1. Go to Shop smartphones, devices, and accessories.
  2. Select your device.
    • If you want to trade in your device, select Trade in to start the process online.
    • We strongly suggest you add device protection to insure your new phone or tablet against damage or loss.
  3. Follow the prompts to either add the device to your current plan or select a new plan.

For a device you bought elsewhere

Before you beginAdd the device to your account
  1. Go to your myAT&T account overview.
  2. Select Manage my wireless under My wireless.
  3. Choose Add a device.
  4. Find "Bring your own device" and select Get started.
  5. Follow the prompts to order a new AT&T SIM card.
After you add your device

Good to know: Phone numbers from another provider will transfer in 1-3 business hours if you start the process in one of our stores. Transfers can take 3-5 business days if you order your new phone or SIM card online or over the phone. If you’re transferring a non-wireless number, it’ll take a minimum of 5-7 business days. Check the status of your transfer
