Add a line to an AT&T account

Learn how to get service for a new AT&T device or one you’re bringing from somewhere else.

For a new AT&T device

  1. Go to Shop smartphones, devices, and accessories.
  2. Select your device and follow the prompts. We strongly recommend you add device protection to insure your new phone or tablet against damage and loss.
    • If you want to trade in your device, select Trade in your old device to start the process online.
    • If you're transferring a number from another provider, select See if you can keep your number.
  3. Follow the prompts to add the device to your current plan or select a new plan.
  4. Follow the prompts to continue.

Heads up:
  • If you have an installment plan, be sure you meet your plan’s eligibility requirements before trading in your smartphone. Learn about trade-in requirements
  • If you choose a 5G phone but aren't on an AT&T Unlimited EliteSM, ExtraSM, or StarterSM plan, switch to an unlimited plan where all plans have 5G access1. View unlimited plans

For a device you bought elsewhere

To add a device to your account:
  1. Go to your myAT&T account overview.
  2. Open the My wireless section and select Add a device under My devices & add-ons.
  3. Find Bring your own device and select Get started.
  4. Follow the prompts to order a new AT&T SIM card.

Next steps
Good to know: If you start your number transfer in an AT&T store, the transfer completes in 1-3 business hours. If you ordered your new phone or SIM card online or over the phone, the transfer can take 3-5 business days. Non-wireless number transfers take a minimum of 5-7 business days. Check your transfer status
