How Puget Sound Splits Its Codes

Until 1997, all of western Washington answered to Seattle’s 206. The growth years split Puget Sound three ways: Seattle kept 206, Tacoma and the south took 253, and the booming Eastside and north took 425. Now 564 overlays the west as each code fills up: new Seattle lines began drawing 564 in 2025.

Washington’s Phasing-In Overlay: 564

Washington’s newest code is arriving in phases: area code 564 overlays all of western Washington, activating region by region as the older codes run out. It began with 360 in 2017 and reached Seattle’s 206 in June 2025. Nothing changes for existing numbers; new lines in exhausted regions simply draw 564.
