The most common area code 531 text scam is the “wrong number” opener: a friendly message that pretends to know you, then moves the chat to WhatsApp and eventually to an investment pitch. Scripts currently circulating:

How number spoofing works in area code 531

Caller ID is easy to forge. Spoofing fakes the number a call displays. The real owner of that 531 number isn’t involved and usually has no idea. That’s why blocking one number rarely stops the calls.

A call from a number almost identical to yours (same 531 and prefix) is “mirror spoofing.” A missed call from your own number is never worth returning.
