The most common area code 826 text scam is the “wrong number” opener: a friendly message that pretends to know you, then moves the chat to WhatsApp and eventually to an investment pitch. Scripts currently circulating:

How number spoofing works in area code 826

Caller ID is easy to forge. Spoofing fakes the number a call displays. The real owner of that 826 number isn’t involved and usually has no idea. That’s why blocking one number rarely stops the calls.
