Otherwise solid phone, but too unreliable

This phone is decent as phones go, and were it not for one glaring problem, I would be quite satisfied with it.
But no list of features or advantages can outweigh, or even balance, the fact that this phone resets or shuts itself off periodically.
This happens when I simply have the phone sitting on a desk or table. If I'm expecting a call or a text, I have to frequently check to make sure it didn't turn itself off. It happens with great regularity when I am attempting to send text messages. The screen fades out, and the phone resets itself while the "Sending" notification is displayed. Fortunately, my texts are saved, so I am able to attempt to resend them once the reboot has finished, but the most maddening occurrences are when I'm in the middle of typing a text, because these are not saved, and I lose what I've typed up to that point.
The frequency with which it happens is somewhat variable, but I have had this happen eight times in the past two hours, ranging from mildly irritating to justifying homicide. It's shameful that this product made it past quality control.

This phone has helped me across the oceans, falls, drops, crashes and has been the best backup ally so far.

Truly frustrating

Though the phone is lightweight, small and inexpensive, it is incredibly frustrating to use. It frequently turns itself off mid-phone call or immediately after pressing send on a text, causing the message to not go through. It resets itself regularly and has even frozen, making the screen unable to use, on multiple occasions. Really upset at the terrible quality of this phone.

Turns itself off randomly

I like the size of it, nice and small. It seems really durable, I've dropped it a few times, no issues. I don't have any trouble with texting or calling. The speakerphone is bad, I've tried it in the car and I can't hear them and they can't hear me, with my volume all the way up. It turns itself off randomly, sometimes it comes back on, sometimes not. I usually don't know that it's done this, so I miss a bunch of calls. That is really annoying. If you try to multitask (or you're just typing up a text and someone calls), it freaks out and turns itself off. Then it takes another 5 minutes to turn back on and initialize so you can use it again. Upgrading to an iphone.

Q: Is there a software update that solves the random shutting off problem? Phone does not "power down" but rather is on one moment, then is off the next moment. This happens while initializing and during phone calls. Is there a way to fix this problem?

- A: There is no fix to this problem. It is a software problem that is AT&T knows about. They will offer to send a new battery, doesn't fix it. They will try to upgrade the software, doesn't work. They might even try to restore it to factory settings, that doesn't fix it either And they might even try to change some obscure code within the phone to fix this, doesn't work either. The technical answer is that the phone powers off when it switches from tower to tower. I have gone through 3 phones that have all had the same problem, unfortunately AT&T does not offer a way to fix this problem. Their in-store solution was to place a warranty claim, if you are still eligible, buy a go phone to wait out the rest of your contract for your next upgrade, or to buy a used phone from a friend or online to replace the phone you are currently using. - A: I had the same issue with my phone, but it was just because of the way my cheek brushed the touch screen and turned on the speaker. After you dial the number that you are calling, use the screen lock button or slide key on the side and lock the screen, then no matter what you bump the speaker will not be turned on.14 years agoHelpful?
