Digital Phone Call Protect uses the power of the AT&T network to:
Call Protect is available at no charge to AT& Phone for business customers. Sign in to myAT&T via desktop to opt in.
Incoming Call Verification: AT&T Phone for business Call Protect will verify incoming calls with [V] in front of the number or name. The [V] stands for Valid Number and means that AT&T has verified that the call really is originating from the device that is registered to that number, in other words, it is not a call from someone that is trying to pretend it is their number (i.e. a spoofed call).
This featured is part of a nationwide initiative to reduce the number of unwanted calls. At first only AT&T and a few other companies are validating calls. As more phone companies come onboard to this initiative and begin validating calls, the percentage of validated calls will increase.
Keep in mind, even if AT&T validates the number, people can still use valid numbers for bad purposes. Always use caution when answering calls from people you don't know.
Calls may arrive without being marked with a [V] due to one of the following reasons:
Calls will be marked [V] when legitimate telemarketers and other callers correctly identify themselves and originate calls from a phone number they own.
Automatic Fraud Blocking1: If the call is Allowed, it will ring through as usual. If the call is determined to be potential fraud, the caller will hear a busy signal and the call will not be delivered. This feature can be toggled on or off.
