This is actually an excellent device. I've had several BlackBerry phones over the last 8 years, and this one is by far the most efficient all across the board. It provides very good multimedia options, and communication is always top-notch on a BB. While somewhat too bulky for my tastes, it handles a lot very well.
At no point in time has this model (Torch- 9810) ever had BBOS 6. It is a BB7 (OS7) device. This version is far superior to those of the previous rendition (Torch- 9800). Significantly more memory space that provide much smoother operations and functionality. The web browsing is very good, and fairs very well against the competition that was released around the same time. It doesn't have Flash, but neither does iPhone. Even Android is no longer using it. only the new Blackberry models continue to make use of the valuable type of coding.
What this phone lacks from the previous flagship device (Bold- 9900) is Near Field Communication (NFC) which allows wireless transfer from phone to phone by touching the back of the device to another NFC capable model. Also, it has much smaller keys to accommodate the screen that slides out above it. While smaller than the keys of the Bold, I found them to be very easy and comfortable to work with. The last comparison to the Bold is the camera. The Torch has auto-focus, which the Bold does not. This makes photos taken on the Torch exponentially better.
The battery life on this model is roughly 7 hours with moderate use. To reduce the amount of drain, the display settings can be tweaked to reduce brightness. This action alone will save significant juice in the battery. Other things like wifi and Bluetooth being on unnecessarily will cause a lot of drain as well. be mindful of it.
As far as the glitches some people have been talking about with the lock screen or pocket dialing, that has never happened to me with this model. Unless you have something else in your pockets that is pushing the talk or send button, it will remain completely inactive in your pockets.
The bad about the device is that there are occasional freezes. Software updates help resolve this issue, but if the memory is close to full on any device, it will do the same thing. I'm not a fan of the "clock of death" (spinning clock on BB) but there are things that this phone does FAR better than any other out in the market even today. Namely, file management, security, and one of the most underrated and overlooked aspects- data compression. BlackBerry phones sip data as opposed to chugging them like all the competition. Sipping data means you barely use any and you can maintain a very low monthly plan. If you are a heavy data user, you know how expensive data plans can get.
Apps- If you're looking to connect candy lines or ninja slice fruit, you're not going to find many of those style apps here. BlackBerry is more about communication. They have many apps that work excellent, but don't expect much. The newer BlackBerry 10 operating system covers that sort of thing for you app hungry and uber multimedia folks just as much as it does the corporate necessities.
Lastly, durability. This phone is a trooper. I've dropped it many a time. the glass never broke, so anyone who says this phone easily breaks must be slamming this phone down, or dropping the phone face down in a pit of spikes. Durability, security, communication and efficiency are all synonymous with BlackBerry.
I hope this review helps people more than the ones others who don't seem too familiar with the device have left.
Proscommunication (bbm text voice email), data-compression (significant $ savings on data), file management (far better than the rest), security (encrypted data communication end to end), innovative design (slider + physical keyboard), multitasking (web docs pics & music all at once), removable/replaceable battery, sd card slot, autofocus 5 megapixel cam/hd vid, durable
Cons"clock of death" can freeze phone, less fun apps (developer issue not bb), a little bulky
Yes, I recommend this product.

More of a Business Phone

I would have to say that this phone is great for being a slider phone with a physical QWERTY keyboard. Also, it is great for staying in contact with email messages you receive from multiple accounts. This phone also sends messages extremely fast, and connects to the internet easily and quickly. However, disadvantages of this phone are low volume when talking to anyone on the phone, screen freezing after downloading an app, and the lack of apps the blackberry has available on the phone. I still would recommend this phone to anyone. I can still watch videos, play games, chat with msn or yahoo messenger, and take great photos (over 1,000 pictures). The battery charges fast too.
Proskeyboard, slider phone, take many great photos, use like a mp3 player with 6gb of space, sends messages fast, fast internet connection, map and gps for driving directions, battery charges fast
Conslow volume when talking, sound plays with phone is on vibrate, screen freezes after downloading app, battery runs down fast
Yes, I recommend this product.

The touchscreen stopped working after one month. The battery life is bad. The phone hangs every time you unlock it.

Dont listen to the bad reviews

My family has several of these and they all rock. The battery life is good. The network speed is the fastest of all OS7 Phones and its generally an excellent communication device.
Its basically a computer, if you load junk apps like groupon or something that sucks up the memory you will have problems. You cant load poorly made apps. You should reboot it every few days or every week.
Worried about you data plan ? Worry no more!!!!! This phone uses BIS Blackberry s network so data is compressed. This relates to about a 1/3 actually data being used for the same content!
Small business owner? A great choice to run your business! Pair this with a playbook and you will be in heaven.
We have updated to the Z10. I will miss this phone very much. The data charges stay low and it really is a fast solid and dependable communicator. If problems pop up , reload the software and restore a backup . Its very easy to do. If that doesnt work there are many to buy here or on ebay from people who needed to upgrade. IMHO its an extreme!!! Value to anyone who just needs a solid communication device thats highly configurable and is a worldwide used system by many many millions of happy Blackberry users!!
ProsWi-fi Capability, Tools, Menus, Games, Camera/Video Quality, Speaker, battery life, Durable, Ease of Use, Good For Texting
