LG Bootloop
After nine months of use, my phone suffered from the dreaded LG bootloop. Look it up. LG knows and keeps selling the phone. Blantant planned obsolescence!

Shouldn't have to do factory reset every week
9 years ago
I first got the LG G4 a year ago after being an avid turned anti iPhone user. The AT&T rep highly recommended it and everything I read and compared made it the greatest phone for me, especially for the price. For the first month I absolutely loved everything about it. Then it showed it's true self. Regular photos were great until they fully loaded and then were pretty pixelated. I could actually see the photo go from beautiful quality to pixelated, block by block. The zoom feature was always horrible. They were so pixelated I could barely tell what I took a picture of. This was really disappointing because a huge selling point of this phone was the photo quality.
The biggest problem was emergency mode. Even with full service and paid bill, the phone would get stuck in emergency. The only thing that would get it out was turning airplane mode on and off. After a while that didn't work so I would reboot the phone. Then I had to reseat the SIM card. After having to reboot every day, and reseat the SIM at least once a week I finally did a factory reset. I ended up doing that every couple of weeks. I even stopped putting the case back on it because it was just getting annoying having to remove it daily. I finally got sick of all that and less than a year of having it I got a replacement LG G4.
SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED! Instead of waiting 10 months like before, I dealt with it for a month then was told to get a new SIM (which I asked about with the last phone and was told "not yet") I had the new SIM for less than a week and then spent 3 days with the phone in emergency, even after reboots, network reset, and re-registering the device on the network twice. Had I done a factory reset I probably would have gotten out of emergency but I was so sick of doing that I just contacted tech support (for the 3rd time in less than a year for the same issue). They told me my current device was still within the 90 day warranty so would send me another device. I requested anything but and LG and thankfully they agreed.
LG devices I've had in the past have been great so I'm really disappointed in the G4 and wish I could've given it a good review. This was horrible enough that it ruined LG for me completely.

Q: I have an old flip phone that I have had for years with ATT. It only has calling and no other features such as texting. Would I be able to transfer this plan to this phone without any changes. I do not want texting and would the bill still be the same?

A: Howdy whiskers4,
Those are great questions, I’m glad you asked!
Having the ability to just talk on the LG G4, all depends on what type of account you are going to use the device on.
If you are going to use the LG G4 on an AT&T GoPhone/pre-paid account, it will not require to have a data plan or messaging plan.
Now, if the LG G4 is going to be used on an AT&T postpaid account it will require to have a data plan, and messaging would be an option, based on your current plans and features.
You can connect with AT&T and have a representative research your account to provide you all your options.
Have a great one!

Q: I second gramma2slo and neauva. I am thinking about upgrading to the G4 this Sat as well. Is there a way to confirm the current phones sold at AT&T will not have the boot loop hardware issue?

A: "Hi Cheeku,
Thank you for posting your question! Unfortunately there is not a way to tell which serial/batch of the LG G4 that will be shipped out when ordered. I would recommend to install Android 6.0 Marshmallow when you receive the device to take advantage of the new features Marshmallow has to offer. To learn more about the LG G4, please visit https://www.att.com/support_static_files/manuals/LG_G4_H810.pdf for the user’s manual.
Thanks!

Q: If I was to buy this phone, which serial number would I get? I don't want to be plagued with bootloop issues, so I'd want hardware 1.1 in the 6xx range of serial numbers.

A: Hi Phi1,
That’s a great question and an important one! The LG G4 will come with a one year manufactures warranty when purchased new at no cost. If you are wanting to add insurance, unfortunately AT&T does not offer the insurance feature for devices on GoPhone/Pre-paid accounts.
Thanks,

Q: Can this phone be used with a gophone sim card?

A: Hello Thatguys,
Thank you for posting your question! You can certainly use the LG G4 on a pre-paid account when the device is purchased at full price ($358.99) as pre-paid accounts are not eligible for the AT&T Next program. The device will come with a postpaid sim card and you will need to stop by an AT&T corporate store and get a new pre-paid sim card and have it activated while there. If you would like to learn more about the LG G4, check out https://www.att.com/support_static_files/manuals/LG_G4_H810.pdf for the user’s manual.
Hope this helps!

A: Hello ferna-
Great question, I’m glad you asked!
All phones purchased from AT&T or an AT&T authorized retailer will be locked to the AT&T network and will be required to be unlocked to be used on another carrier’s network.
If you purchase the device at full price, you can visit www.att.com/unlock and submit a request to AT&T to provide you the unlock code and steps to complete the unlock. You will also find more details about unlocking device in this same link.
Please visit https://www.att.com/support_static_files/manuals/LG_G4_H810.pdf for the user’s manual. All new devices come with a 1 year manufacturer’s warranty.
Hope this helps!
