Fine camera

Camera is fine, calling and texting is ok, sending photo is great, the most problem that I really hate that try to stop myself by throwing it at wall is I ask my husband to buy it for me instead of IPhone, it freez all the time, and waiting for a phone call or waiting for a txt back, scolding the person why no response, without knowing that my Nokia freez off. It's hard to turn it back, it hurts your finger before its turn back on.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Phenomenal camera and software

I've had this phone for six months now and I love it. When you pull up your high-resolution photos on your computer, no one will believe they weren't taken with a quality digital camera and expensive lense. Landscape pictures are amazing! On several of my photos, I can see the distant, huge rock structures I'm focused on in great detail or zoom in on individual blades of grass beside the trail I'm on. I have also used the camera to take photos and zoom in to read text that is too distant to see by the naked eye.
I read numerous reviews on the difficulties of figuring out the software, but it isn't bad. I had no knowledge of white balance, ISO, exposure time, focus distance settings etc... and I had very little difficulty. The only reason I see someone complaining about the software being difficult is because it has so many options (regular camera settings, smart cam, panorama, cinemagraph, remove moving objects, create .gifs, motion focus, action shots, change faces, blur background effects, panoramas... ). Lots of things to play with and make unique photos or use the auto setting to take crystal clear pitctures.
Outside of the camera, I like the phone as well. It fits easily in my pocket, isn't too heavy, and the camera apparatus keeps the phone from laying flat (which I enjoy because it keeps the lens from always being in contact with tables, or worse, sidewalks and floors). I enjoy the Windows Mobile operating system more than the Apple and Android phones I have had in the past. It is very utilitarian and you can make the home screen and lock screens pretty with your great pictures if you like (most tiles can be made transparent so you can see your background photo through all of your app buttons). Full use of Microsoft Office is also incredible for a phone. Have a problem with a formula in a spreadsheet you've sent or submitted but you're not home? No worries, open it from your cloud file with your Microsoft account, make the edit, and resend it, all from your cell.
Battery life is great. I only run into a dead battery if I am streaming music all day. With lower usage amounts, battery keeps a charge through a second day. Texting is satisfactory and includes a swipe option. The keyboard has properly sized buttons. A newer phone with better hardware will run slightly faster but I seldom have a wait time beyond fractions of a second with button response and app load times are reasonably short.
My reasoning for discounting a single star is that many companies do not yet make fully functional apps for windows phones. Even large companies (ticketmaster, for example) only support Android and Apple. I haven't run into any game enders that I can't get around, but I have run into a handful of inconveniences that wouldn't be had if I either had an Apple/Android phone or Microsoft phones were more popular.
Regardless of any problems, it's worth it to have a 41 MP camera in my pocket. A lot of amazing sights are seen in situations that you don't have your camera around your neck or in your back pack: why not be ready to capture the moment everywhere you go?

Great Product, Great Value

After five months of use, I rate the Lumia 1020 as a great product and value. It does all frequently used functions well and has proven to be 100% reliable. Call voice quality (both earpiece and speakerphone) are exceptional. And the ability to check information on web sites during a call (an AT&T exclusive feature) has come in handy on numerous occasions already. The Lumia touchscreen has proven to be not only extremely durable, but exceptionally clear and responsive (as advertised by Nokia). Full battery charge has lasted an averaged of 48 - 60 hours which, for my needs, has proven to be completely satisfactory. Bluetooth functionality/syncing is smooth, transparent and automatic, especially when going from the house/office to my car. Integration with Microsoft Outlook allows me to receive text notifications of schedule changes, missed calls, etc., anytime I'm away from my office. Photo quality is so good that my wife now routinely asks me to use my phone for taking important family event pictures instead of using her iPhone 5. The August 2014 Windows Phone 8.1 update installed flawlessly, and I have not encountered any functionality problems with any apps since its installation.
For those who have been considering taking the leap to the Windows Phone (WP) environment, I highly recommend you do. The WP interface is extremely intuitive, easy to customize and flexible enough to allow almost any combination of apps on the Start screen. The app availability at the Windows Store is voluminous.
