Area Code 483

Montgomery and surrounding communities

Area code 483 is Montgomery’s newest overlay. It went live in February 2026 across the same territory as 334, from Abbeville, Alex City, Alexander City and beyond. New numbers are only starting to be issued, so a 483 caller ID is still rare: this guide covers what the code is, who might be calling, and what it means for your own number.

Who called me from area code 483?

Quick answerA real 483 call comes from Montgomery or nearby communities, but 483 numbers are brand new and still rare, so treat an unfamiliar one with extra care: caller ID can be spoofed. If there’s no voicemail, let it go: legitimate callers leave messages.
  • No voicemail? Let it go. Real callers leave messages.
  • Recognize the pattern? Check the number in the prefix lookup.
  • Getting repeats? ActiveArmor® blocks and labels them automatically.
  • Same prefix calling again? Compare it against this month’s most-reported prefixes from the region, right on this page.
  • Curious who issued a number? Every assigned prefix belongs to a carrier - the registry will name each 483 prefix as it comes into service.

No 483 spam patterns have been reported yet: the code is too new. Spoofers imitate the established local codes first, so the current patterns below come from the 334 board.

Is area code 483 a scam?

No. 483 is a legitimate Montgomery area code.

It went live in February 2026 as the newest layer over the Montgomery region, serving the exact same territory as 334. But legitimacy of the code says nothing about any single call. Scammers spoof local numbers constantly.

The code is realLive since February 2026; carrier prefixes are only beginning to roll out, so 483 numbers are still rare.

Scam texts from area code 483 numbers

The most common area code 483 text scam is the “wrong number” opener: a friendly message that pretends to know you, then moves the chat to WhatsApp and eventually to an investment pitch.

Scripts currently circulating:

“U at home?” · “Are you busy tomorrow?” · “How are you doing?”
Delivery-problem and job-offer texts that link out to a login page

Don’t reply. A response marks your number as live. Forward scam texts to 7726 (SPAM), and AT&T ActiveArmor® filters known senders automatically.

How number spoofing works in area code 483

Caller ID is easy to forge. Spoofing fakes the number a call displays. The real owner of that 483 number isn’t involved and usually has no idea. That’s why blocking one number rarely stops the calls.

  • A call from a number almost identical to yours(same 483 and prefix) is “mirror spoofing.” A missed call from your own number is never worth returning.
  • Strangers calling you back saying you called them?Your 483 number is being spoofed. It typically passes within days, and you don’t need a new number. Report it at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
  • The caller-ID checkmark:AT&T verifies network calls (STIR/SHAKEN). A verified mark means the displayed number wasn’t faked. No mark doesn’t always mean scam, but treat it with more caution.

Spoofed or not, the rule holds: unexpected caller, no voicemail? Let it go.

483 area code prefix & carrier lookup

The three digits after the area code identify the carrier a number was issued to. 483 is so new that few or no carrier prefixes are in service yet: the registry below shows the standard service codes every area code reserves. Carrier prefixes will appear here as numbers ship; the guide 334 board shows what a mature registry for this region looks like.

This isn’t a reverse phone lookup: no legitimate free service can tell you who owns a specific number. What a prefix does show, once assigned: the carrier that issued it, whether it’s wireless, landline or VoIP, and the community it belongs to.

The 483, explained

Area code 483: more than a number in Montgomery

In Montgomery, a new area code is a population milestone. The 483 went live in February 2026, the second code layered over the same territory as 334, and the clearest sign yet of how the region keeps growing. Carrying one today marks you as one of the area’s newest arrivals: the numbers are only beginning to ship.

The map tells its own story: Montgomery and surrounding communities, one territory now served by 334 together with 483. Nothing about the coverage changes; the region simply has a deeper pool of numbers.

Keeping a 483 matters here. An existing 483 number ports to a new phone, a new carrier, or a new AT&T line, and stays yours anywhere in the U.S.

Area code 483 FAQ

What area code is 483?
483 is the newest area code for Montgomery and the surrounding communities in Alabama. It went live in February 2026 and covers the exact same territory as 334.
Is area code 483 real or a scam?
483 is a legitimate Alabama area code, but it is brand new and numbers are still rare. If you get a 483 call today and you don’t know anyone with a new local number, be cautious: spoofing a new code is a known scam tactic. AT&T ActiveArmor labels suspected spam automatically.
Why did the 334 region get another area code?
Growth. The 334 pool was projected to run out of assignable numbers, so regulators approved 483 as an all-services overlay. Nothing changes for existing numbers; new lines simply start drawing from the new code.
Does 483 change my existing number?
No. Overlays never change existing numbers. Your 334 number stays exactly as it is; 483 only affects newly issued numbers.
How do I get a 483 number?
You don’t choose it directly: carriers assign numbers from whichever local code has inventory. As the older pool empties, new AT&T lines in the region will increasingly come with 483. There is no fee or action needed.
What area does 483 cover?
The full 334 territory: Autauga, Barbour, Bullock, Butler, Chambers and Coffee and 18 more counties, including Abbeville, Alex City, Alexander City and the communities listed on this page.
When did 483 go live?
February 2026. It was approved as relief for the 334 numbering region, and carriers began activating it then. Numbers are still being issued gradually.
What time zone is area code 483?
Central Time: UTC-6 in winter, UTC-5 during daylight saving. The live local time is at the top of this page.
How do I dial a 483 number?
Dial all 10 digits: 483 plus the seven-digit number, the same as every code in the region. From outside the U.S., add the +1 country code first.
Why did I get a call from a 483 number?
Either someone with a brand-new local number, or a spoofed caller ID. Because 483 numbers are still scarce, an unfamiliar 483 call deserves more suspicion than a 334 call. Let it go to voicemail; real callers leave messages.
Is 483 a toll-free number?
No. 483 is a geographic area code for the Montgomery region, not a toll-free prefix. U.S. toll-free numbers start with 800, 888, 877, 866, 855, 844 or 833.
What’s the difference between 483 and 334?
Age, and nothing else that matters day to day. 334 is the region’s established code; 483 is the 2026 newcomer. They cover the same map, calls between them are local, and both dial with 10 digits.
Can I keep a 483 number if I move?
Yes. Numbers port: a 483 number goes with you to a new phone, a new carrier or a new city anywhere in the U.S., just like any other area code.
Why did I get a text message from a 483 number?
Treat it carefully. Scam texts often rotate onto new codes because the numbers have no reputation yet. Don’t reply or tap links; forward the text to 7726 (SPAM) and delete it. AT&T ActiveArmor filters known scam senders automatically.
Will a 483 number work everywhere?
Yes. It’s a standard North American number: calls, texts and apps treat it like any local number. Some older web forms may not recognize very new codes at first; that resolves as databases update.
