Bring your own device to AT&T Prepaid

Want to bring your own phone or tablet to AT&T Prepaid? Find out how to get a SIM card, keep your phone number, and more.

Make sure your device works on AT&T Prepaid

First, find out if your phone works on our network (PDF, 448KB). If you see it on the list, you're good to go.
Confirm your device is unlocked. Not sure how? Contact your current provider or the device manufacturer.
Be sure your device isn’t reported as lost, stolen, or involved with fraud at stolenphonechecker.org.

Get an AT&T Prepaid SIM Card kit

Go to the Prepaid BYOD page and choose your SIM type.

A physical SIM: Selected by default
eSIM: Choose Get an eSIM activation card instead

Choose an AT&T Prepaid® plan and complete the checkout process.

We’ll ship your prepaid SIM card or eSIM activation card to you (arrives within 3-7 business days). To activate your phone with:

A physical SIM card: Insert the SIM into your unlocked phone
An eSIM: Use your phone to scan the QR code on your activation card and follow the prompts to activate.

FYI: Not sure if your device can use eSIM? Dial *#06# on your device. If you see an EID number, you can use eSIM.

Transfer your number

Want to bring your current number with you? See if your number is transferrable

If it’s transferrable, start your transfer.
If it isn’t, check with your current provider.
Heads up: Don’t forget to back up and transfer your data.
