Overall great phone with minor snags

I bought the white HTC Vivid about a month ago to replace my beloved Moto Atrix that I had sadly lost. After the first two that I bought had problems (first one had a dead pixel on the screen the day I got it home and the second stopped turning on after 2 weeks of use), I have now had this one for 3 weeks with no problems, and although I miss my Atrix a lot there are lots of things that I LOVE about this phone! So here are the good and the bad of the Vivid:
The Good:
a) Screen is amazing. Crystal clear, large, bright...videos, photos, websites, everything looks just wonderful! I liked the screen on the Vivid better than that of the Skyrocket.
b) The camera on this phone is one of the best I've seen! Every picture I take looks great. I thought the cam on the Atrix was pretty good but the camera on the Vivid almost makes me not even need a regular digicam. Panorama mode is so handy to have and the cam also takes really good low light photos.
c) HTC Sense is much more user friendly and can be customized to a greater extent than most other manufacturer's Android overlays. I was able to install a pink "skin", change my lock screen, add widgets to lock screen...overall I'm much more impressed with Sense than I was with Motoblur (was ANYONE impressed with Motoblur?). Seems like HTC really puts effort into making Sense look beautiful and be highly customizable and it really shows.
d) The phone is fast. SUPER fast. Everything opens in an instant, everything loads quickly, games and apps move along seamlessly. Only a couple hiccups every now and then, but the processor definitely does a nice job on this phone.
The Bad:
a) I've had several force restarts and random shut downs with this phone. I'm hoping this clears up with the ICS update we are supposed to get soon. I remember having this problem with the Atrix before the Gingerbread update and as soon as the update came the random restarts stopped, so this hopefully won't be a problem forever.
b) BATTERY LIFE!!! Its really bad. My Atrix was pretty bad, but this is just a bit worse. If I am at work and not really touching my phone, the battery will lose about 10% in 4 hours which isn't bad, but in order for this to happen I have to cut off sync, background data, wifi, everything. If I leave any connections on the battery will drain about 10% every hour even with little to no use. If connections are on and I'm using the phone, it will easily drain completely in a matter of a few hours. Its not unworkable, as all smartphones these days have horrible battery life, but just make sure you have a car charger/extra charger around because with regular use the battery will prob only go about 6 hours.
The Neutral:
a) I've noticed that many people don't like the heaviness/shape of this phone. Personally, this is one of the reasons I chose it, but can understand that it may not be for everyone. The phone itself does not feel huge or bulky in my hand when I hold it. I have a hard case on it as well and it still doesn't feel as heavy or bulky as some people seem to think it is. I like the fact that the phone feels a bit heavier, because it feels much more well made than some phones. It doesn't feel that heavy in my hand, although noticeably heavier than some phones. However, I wouldn't pass up this phone simply because its a little heavier!
b) Another thing I have noticed is people saying the speaker volume/call volume is poor on this phone. While the call volume could certainly be a bit louder, I haven't had any problems hearing the person on the other end/having them hear me. Same goes with when I have a call on speakerphone. Additionally, when I play music thru the speaker on my phone, it plays at a pretty good volume. The speaker on my Atrix blew this one out of the water, but the Vivid still has a much better speaker than say that of the iPhone (I've literally tested them side by side and the Vivid drowned out the iPhone). I find the speaker and call volume to be just fine, but do see that for some it may just be too quiet.
Overall, I am pretty happy that I chose this phone as a replacement for my Atrix. I can't wait for the ICS update to come out to make this phone even better!!

4.0.3 Upgrade

I used to rate this phone 5 stars, But since the upgrade to Android ICS 4.0.3 the phone is now 0 stars. ICS 4.0.3 works great the problem is they disabled Voice Dialing and Commands over blue-tooth. My state requires hands free calling which is no longer possible with the update. Once you upgrade there is no going back. I am very disappointed.

The HTC Vivid is a great phone, but it has a horrible battery life.

Over all the HTC Vivid is a good phone. It has a good display, really loud speakers, and has an awesome camera, but it has a horrible battery life. Its like you need to charge it two times a day for it to have thirty percent battery left by the time you get home.
Prosit has a very good display.
Consit has a really low battery life

2 Year Contract w/ this Phone

I have had this phone since August 2012 & I will be able to upgrade it August 2014.
This phone has served me very well. I have dropped it dozens of times (because I'm clumsy) & it still works perfectly. In my opinion, it's very user friendly. I love the widgets, hate the bloatware.
I can watch Netflix & Youtube videos on it all day. The camera quality is pretty good. It has both a rear view & front view camera which is a plus.
The battery used to last me for about an 1-2 days, but now I charge it & play games at the same time which damages the battery & causes the phone to overheat (entirely my fault). On a good day, it would still last for about 20 hours!!
It takes about 2 hours to charge.
Also the phone is a bit heavy, it weighs my pants down. But hands down, this phone has served me very well!

Worst phone ever.

This is the worst phone I have ever had the displeasure of owning. I bought this as an "upgrade" 6 months ago to my iPhone 3G (there was nothing even wrong with it, I just felt like getting a new phone after 5 years). Before the iPhone, I had only ever owned LG phones, with no problems. I thought I'd give this one a try because it was a "good deal." Now I know why it was cheap.
The case is extremely cheap. The outside part is a shiny black plastic that looks cheap and IS cheap. The back cover over the battery is thin, flimsy metal that easily bends. This thing was CONSTANTLY popping off. I considered duct taping over it just to keep it on so my battery would stop falling out. I admit I have a tendency to drop my phone sometimes. However, all my previous phones, including the iPhone, were able to keep on ticking like nothing happened no matter how many times I dropped it, even on CONCRETE, TILE, whatever. This one... I could drop it on the CARPET and it would explode into pieces.
As for the battery life.... what battery life? I had to have it plugged in constantly, making sure I had a charger with me at all times. It would last maybe a couple hours if I didn't touch it... maybe 30 minutes if I was having a conversation in texts or god forbid felt like using an app. The battery would also heat up to ridiculously hot if in use (say, using Spotify for music while driving). I'd have to take it off my lap because it felt like it just popped out of an oven.
The sound, when not plugged in to anything, was atrocious. The little speakers were awful even just using an alarm or ringtone. I put the volume all the way up so it's loud enough to wake me with the alarm, but it sounds terrible. Only sounds normal/crisp when at low volumes, but what's the point of that?
The interface looked fine. The software itself seemed fine, never really encountered any bugs or anything. Reception seemed ok. Really, I think the major issues and dealbreaker of this phone is the battery and cheap construction.
I'm never trying another HTC phone after this. Maybe there are better models out there, but I'm not going to take a gamble with my money again. I usually keep my phones for years and only upgrade by choice. This thing broke today after only 6 months; it won't turn on at all now. I'm not going to lie, though, in a way I'm almost happy it broke so I have an excuse to get something else.

Best phone I have ever owned.

Since buying this phone over a year ago it has just about replaced my laptop and use my laptop for just about everything. I love this phone. Seriously!! It has a great UI and HTC sense is fantastic. Takes wonderful pics and gets great videos. Its extremely fast and can do almost everything your laptop can do without having to lug around a laptop. I forget my wallet more than I forget my phone. I have been through many phones with AT&T even a very short encounter with the iPhone. My HTC Vivid has been everything I wanted since my first phone back in early 1990's. The only issue I have is battery life and no good front speaker. I never can go the whole day on a single charge and probably due to the high usage of the phone. Takes wonderful pictures and videos. I even got video of me and my daughter go down a zip-line and it was amazing footage, WOW! Which it had alittle more ram too it but this by far is a solid built and great performing smartphone.

- A: Hi, Sarah. This sounds like you have a setting that may need to be changed. Go into the "Messages" app and look at the notifications setting. There should be a setting that says "Display New Message" or something similar. That may be set to "OFF".
