I know that Motoblur has been around for 6 months or so, but I cannot believe how great it is. I understand some people will slam this phone because it is Android 1.5 (I'd like 2.1 as much as the next person) but look this isn't your ordinary Android phone. It is a social networking phone and for a lot of people, this becomes more appealing than any other phone out there...including______!
Having the abilities of multiple apps at once and fully having the phone work with your GMAIL or Yahoo! mail accounts and address books rocks. (I updated my contacts from my Mac to my Gmail account today via v-cards and they all sync'd automatically through Blur to the phone...that's super cool) I have an iPhone that I still love to use and yeah, my browsing experience on the iPhone is still superior to the Backflip, but really, that is the one huge difference. If the browser was better at formatting the screen size to the Backflip, I'd be more likely to say that I'll use the Backflip exclusively, but it not really even close, so I have to believe both the iPhone and the Backflip will remain in both pockets.
Battery drain is kinda fast and yes it has been fully charged, but so much is going on at once, I am not shocked that battery life isn't stronger, but I'll still say that I'm wishing for a little more battery life.
Camera is really nice, pictures that I have taken are pretty warm in their look, which was kinda surprising. The phone is rather fast (I read reviews saying it was "glitchy"...restarted mine after setting up Blur and phone has been smooth. So I think the reviewers got something odd or whatever...just don't know)
Much has been made of the Yahoo! search instead of Google. That was a major beef for me when I read the reviews. Then I actually used it. Works great. Look, I use google for everything I use, three computers and an iPhone, but really, Yahoo! works quite well. I did regular searches for cnet, espn, google and Rolling Stone, all but RS came with the mobile look (which they all default to on my iPhone as well.) The browser is quick, but as mentioned before, Rolling Stone (RS) was not all that great at formatting to the screen. You can +/- for making the screen look more correct, but then your font is just getting too small. No multi-touch, but I don't expect that on anything but an iPhone. (I know some other Android phones have it, but due to those phones by HTC getting sued by Apple, I don't know how many other phones that will have multi-touch in the near future)
Backtrack: Cool. Not using it a whole heck of a lot yet, but I see the killer feature that it can be. It is nice using it as you scroll down the page, but much like someone that is used to a PS3 controller, using an XBOX 360 controller takes some time...Backtrack will be like that, but I see myself getting used to this.
Overall, the phone is not surprisingly fun/useful/fast and different. Keyboard is exposed, but guess what? Blackberry's, lots of Nokia's, Samsung's, etc have exposed keypads and they don't get knocked for this. Why knock this phone? Don't...at least when you have it "closed" the keyboard is inactive, something that would take some kind of button to lock. I would recommend this phone to anyone that uses email, twitter, facebook, google contacts, yahoo mail, apps. Yeah, buy one if you want to keep in touch with everyone.
