Hands Down...My Favorite "Phone"...Ever
12 years ago
Let me preface this review by saying that I am not a “tech savvy” individual, nor do I normally write reviews. So consider this a review by an average Joe who spends way too much time on his phone. With that being said, I absolutely love this phone. I have been using this device for about 3 weeks now and I could not be happier with it. Between my wife and me, we have probably been through about 30 phones in our lifetime… this includes every version of the iPhone as well as a few Android phones. I really do like Apple products, but after using this device… I can hardly stand to use my wife’s iPhone.
Some of my favorite things about the Note III:
• It is smokin’ fast - It just operates so smoothly and jumps between applications effortlessly.
• Battery Life – I’m on my phone way too much throughout the day and I have yet to have this thing die on me. And an added bonus… the USB 3 charger! I can completely charge this device in about an hour to an hour and a half.
• The display – Big and beautiful…. Yes it may be too large for some, but to me this is one of its best features. It’s easy on the eyes and makes just about anything on the phone easier to do.
• Camera – I’ve heard others say that the camera could be better, but I’m really happy with it. It takes great pictures and comes with some really cool shooting modes built in.
• Storage – The device comes with 32GB of storage, but accepts up to a 64GB micro SD card. While I do love the playability of iTunes, I love the fact that this device can be used as a jump drive and I can put music on it from where ever I want.
• Customization – You can customize the fool out of this device. The iPhone is getting better, but it’s still nowhere close to this device. Also, the apps… You can get just about anything you want (for free!!!) from Google or Amazon.
Okay I could go on and on about this phone, but I think that you get the idea. The only drawback that I have found is using it as a phone itself. Because it is so large, sometimes it’s difficult to tell if the speaker is actually on your ear or not. I find myself trying to find the speaker with finger so that I can position it in the center of my ear. This could be a hassle if I talked on the phone a lot, but I don’t. On the plus side, it is the best sounding phone I’ve used with my car’s Bluetooth setup.
While it would probably be a stretch to say that this phone is perfect… it just about is.

Missing what I use the most
12 years ago
First Cons:
1. Bluetooth avrcp 1.3 is not correctly implemented. It does not display song progress information on bluetooth receiver. Samsung does not use RemoteControl interface, instead they are using message broadcast to communicate with Bluetooth, which is avrcp 1.1 ( I am Android developer is see their flaws in implementation of some things). It displays Song information the same as other Samsung devices, but it does not display song duration and current playback position). Pure Android 4.3 installed on the same devices does display proper information.
2. Even it can play FLAC files, it cannot stream FLAC files. I am still working on to find work around for this)
3. Does not feel that it is Android 4.3. It more feels like Android 4.0;
4. Android 4.3 Profiles are missing;
5. Android 4.3 support for multiple users is missing.
6. Android 4.3 support for Volume Controls switching tracks is missing;
7. Incorrectly implemented Lock screen widgets, and only work when Lock screen in Swipe mode. When you have lock pattern or PIN, multiple widgets are not supported.
8 Cannot customize buttons.
9. Camera is very confusing and hard to operate when you want to change settings;
10. Lens is placed the way it most of the time can be accidentally covered by fingers while holding the phone.
Pros:
1. Very good battery life;
2. Good screen;
3. Good camera picture quality;
4. One handed operations are very useful;
5. Back cover feels good in your hand, like you are touching a leather. (White model has less leather feeling in hand then black model). I got black model, but wanted to get white one. After feeling in the hand I picked black model instead. White one feels cheap.
It is still a keeper, because I need stylus and big screen, but after moving from pure Android 4.3 (CyanogenMod 10.2 installed on Galaxy S3), I am missing a lot of features, to which I got used to. Interface of TouchWiz becoming very boring, and need fresh look. Samsung still cuts a lot of corners by not implementing native Android features. I feels like they are stuck on Android 4.0.

Awesome Communication Device ever produced
8 years ago
The best cell phone ever produced with unlimited uses to the benefit of each owner. Sometimes I am Forced to use my laptop if only for the lack of Win7 on my Note 3. I just ordered the Note 8 and really wonder why since I have been totally satisfied with what I already have had for years. No regrets. Extremely proportionate. I guess I should update if at least for security purposes of my info and such, or just to have a new second phone. Maybe Ill use it as a personal phone and the Note 3 for everything else. Problems problems.
Thanks Samsung
ProsBright display, Realistic color, Durable, Lightweight, Built-in speakers, proportionate size, always good to go & perform
Consmaybe the plastic
Yes, I recommend this product.

Worked fine except today it is no longer charging the battery. Could be a charge port. Too Bad I can't just have a couple pins to test with a Volt Ohm Meter to verify the port is bad.

1 Answer
A: It will not be possible to receive the 5.1.1 Android software update Over-the-air (OTA) while using the device on any non-AT&T network. Please contact Samsung at bit.ly/1FSBR05 to discuss alternative update methods, if one exists.

Q: need further specs: Number of contacts?, support user groups? user selectable calling tones?
10 years ago
1 Answer
A: The number of contacts is restricted only by available device memory, so you can store a HUGE number of contacts. You can indeed create groups of contacts, and can choose your own ringtones and assign them to specific contacts if you wish.

Q: Is there an app to record lectures from my professors at school?
I have a learning disability that makes taking notes during lectures at school impossible. I just ordered the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and was wondering if there was an app that would let me record the lectures from my professors and be able to connect the phone to my computer and transfer the recording. The lectures are about an hour and ten minutes long.
12 years ago
1 Answer
A: Yes, there is an audio recording app called 'voice recorder'which will do that, and the sound quality is great. You will also be able to transfer the sound file to your computer without any hassle in a few different ways: via USB, Bluetooth, wifi using Samsung Kies software or Samsung Link.

Q: Galaxy Note 3 and Tango vs. iPhone 5 and Face Time
I need a new phone and can't decide between the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 or the iPhone 5. I am leaning towards the Galaxy, as I am a Windows girl, and I like the larger screen as things are easier to see and read. However, my husband and daughters all have iPhone 5's and my question is this: Can I "Face Time" them with the Samsung and they have their Apple's? I know Face Time is through Apple, but if I use Tango to "face time" them with the Galaxy Note 3, will it work? Some app should be able to work between the two different phones for "face timing", correct?
12 years ago
1 Answer
A: Yes, your family can 'facetime' you and vice versa. Tango works across multiple platforms including facetime, Skype, AIM, and Jabber.
Also, Tango will allow you to use both the front and rear cameras, meaning you could also be sharing high quality video and images which is great for both home and business use.

Q: Does this phone have a "facetime" option?

A: As it is not an Apple device, sorry no "facetime".
There are, however, several other options on the Android platform.
Google Hangouts, Skype and Tango are just a few.

Q: How does this compare in usefulness to other smartphones?
I am between phones right now and I really like what I see with the Note 3... I just want a little clarity... You know, separate the fanfare and advertisements from the truth...

A: The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is a great Smartphone. It has most all the features of the Samsung Galaxy high end smartphones, and it also is very large for a cell phone. So it is also sometimes refered to as a Phablet. A combination of a Smart Phone and a small Tablet. So it has many great features. I hope that gives you a bit of an idea of what you would be getting.
