very useful device for the money
The gear s is my first smart watch and I am very satisfied with it. Great form and function in an easy to use display. The Tizen OS is very similar to Android andis easy to get use to. I find myself leaving my phone at home and relying solely on the gear s for my calls and messages. Great little device for a very reasonable price.

Worked great for 7 months
I owned the original gear watch. That is why I bought the Gear S. Well the glass broke when trying to put it on the second charger. It is now history. I've read where the charger is a problem but had no idea that the watch would shatter and be worthless to me. I'm now stuck with an additional contract for 18 months. Lesson to be learned here. Don't buy a watch when you have to buy a contract with it.

Better than I imagined

There isn't much out there yet in terms of user reviews so I thought I'd give my initial impressions as Ive only had it a couple days.
First, lets talk about the size. Before I bought it, everything I saw on the internet made is look gigantic. Don't get me wrong, its a big watch but not ridiculously so. During the purchase, I was actually relieved that it looks smaller in real life than in pictures. Plus its incredibly comfortable. It's so light, you hardly notice you are wearing. They designed it well.
Secondly, I wanted to talk about usability. Yes, you can make and received calls regardless if you have your phone in the room with you or not. It has its own sim card. A neat feature that you can set your phone to call forward mode once it loses bluetooth connectivity. So you dash into a store and your phone is in the car, calls go through to your watch. This all happens seamlessly. I'm not sure about messages yet, haven't had that happen yet.
They little keyboard for sending messages, I thought would be a nightmare, but samsung pulled it off for the most part. They keyboard has swipe thats pretty dang accurate. With it being so small keyboard, you are going to run into mistakes in your typing but not a lot once you get the hang of it. Between swipe and predictive text, you should be good.
This is my first wearable so I was totally confused on the whole concept at first, but downloaded the app, set it up and started playing with it. A day later, totally get it and how it works. Super easy.
Battery life is hard to comment on as I haven't had it very long. Thats why I only gave it 4 stars. I set a dark background because I read it saves battery on amoled screens. At the end of the first day, I had it on constantly playing with it but it still had about 18% power left. Charged it overnight. Today with moderate use I'm at 63% at 11:30pm.
The screen is amazing, so crisp and clear. Colors look great, you can customize your screen but not as much as I'd like. You can pick a background from your own pictures or ones the watch offers and a set of clock faces. You can get new ones from the samsung store, some of free and some are paid.
I'm happy with my purchase. There are times when I just don't want to take my phone, like clubs. Has all the info I need for durations when my phone stays home. Contacts, calendar events, texting, calls. One note about calls. If you are at a noisy place, expect to go outside to take a call on this watch. The speaker is loud enough but not loud enough for a loud place. Ive asked about how my voice sounds and they couldn't tell a difference between calling from the watch or my phone. Sounded just as good.

Good smart watch if you already own the new Note 4 or S 5

Owned this watch for about 3 days now and here are my thoughts:
Display: Unlike other smart watches on the market, this one has great screen real estate and the resolution is more than I could hope for.
Function: Native apps run well...Navigation is fairly intuitive, but the internet and media consumption needs work. This is why this watch is not a complete replacement for your phone. What is very nice is the 3G connectivity. I've used the phone and instant messaging when not connected via wifi and bluetooth and it works like a charm. The integrated speaker is nice to have, but it's better to pair the watch with a bluetooth headset. I have normal sized hands and the keyboard is not terrible, but I've noticed that I've relied on the autocorrect more on this device than I generally do when typing on my phone.
ONE MAJOR CON: AT&T and Samsung have marketed this phone to be able to do certain things. When paired with a phone on the compatibility list outside of the Note 4 and S 5, the native email application on the watch will NOT let you compose or reply to emails. Hoping for a quick firmware update soon, but won't hold my breath.
Battery Life: TERRIBLE...2 days is a huge stretch...more like half a day on normal use. It's nice that the charging cradle can double as an extra battery, but it takes forever to charge using just that.
Apps: The Tizen app store is still new, but I don't think it will gain the traction that Apple or Google, or even Amazon has with theirs. Not enough apps to make for a worthwhile purchase if that's what you're looking for.

I have always loved Samsung products

Overall this is a great device. I have only 2 cons: not running Android and can only be used with Samsung phones. Not running on Android means that I can not get apps from Google play store ( I am not very sure of this because I do not own a Samsung phone as of yet, 5"+ Samsung devices are expensive). Not being able to use it on my 6" BLU products phone has prompted me to have to purchase a Samsung phone. So that tells you how much I love this watch. I have inserted a sim card to use it as a standalone phone (working excellenlty) but have ordered a note 5 to use with my watch.
ProsBright display, Realistic color, Durable, Inexpensive, Lightweight, Built-in speakers, perfect second phone., easy to use., awesome cradle/battery back up.
Consnot running android., have to have a samsung phone to use all features.
Yes, I recommend this product.

My first smart watch

Hey its been almost a year before i decided which smartwstch im gonna get for my convience and ratings from people whom i know that wears smart watches aswell. I was convienced that this is the best smartwatch you can get on the market. I will buy 3 more of this for my family. Thanks to Samsung.

Smartwatch 2.0

The 2.0 refers to the fact that this is my second time around with a smart watch. I purchased my first because of some specific features that turned out to be less than useful based on my needs and was a constant hassle to connect everytime I turned it on.
The Gear S and Galaxy S6 Active support my fitness goals and lifestyle much better and is the integration is flawless. Love the combination.
With these two, my 2 Samsung WiFi cameras and convertible notebook/tablet I am connected and ready for business.

If you were to purchase the Samsung Gear S with a 2 year agreement and decide to cancel you would pay an early termination fee that would be based on how far you are into the contract prior to cancelling.
